Variety Intelligence Platform (VIP+), a division of Variety that operates a digital content offering for subscribers analyzing the most important trends and issues impacting the media and technology industries, is seeking a full-time Media Analyst/Research Editor to join our team.

Candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge of, and ability to write with authority and insight about a wide range of companies, from Netflix and TikTok to Disney and IMAX. The job requires writing and editing shorter commentaries with daily deadlines as well as long-form white papers and decks that can take months to produce. In addition, the role will require taking a managerial role in overseeing and launching a new editorial product. You must be undaunted by the barrage of new-media developments — and able to craft opinion-driven content that proves it.

The position requires being able to engage C-suite level executives with sophisticated editorial skills. Collecting data relevant to the subjects at hand is also required, as is working with easy-to-use software to create charts and tables from that data. Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail are a must.

Candidate will have the ability to write intelligently about a wide variety of subjects, particularly emergent-media topics including artificial intelligence, Web3 and the creator economy. The job also requires being able to edit other people's copy and help manage a daily newsletter product.

Requirements:

• Must have at least 5 years' experience writing, reporting or analyzing the media and/or technology businesses
• Must provide references and work samples of both short and long-form writing.
• Must be able to write clear, concise commentaries with quick turnaround, as well as wrap your head around a slew of data findings to craft a long-form report that conveys mastery of a particular sector and respects the reader’s sustained attention
• Must be able to use WordPress or familiarity with a similar CMS
• Must be able to create clean copy that doesn’t require extensive editing. Copy-editing skills are a plus.
• Must be comfortable communicating via Slack or similar business communication platform

Typical wage range: $90K - $105K

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees.
