Job Title: Technical Service & Development Manager, High Performance Polymers Melt Processing



The role is accountable for technical service and application development activities within the Industrial applications of High Performance Polymers in North America and is based at the King of Prussia R&D Center. These applications generally involve melt processing of fluoropolymers, polyamides, and/or polyaryletherketones (PAEKs).


KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and ensure efficient execution of Technical Service and New Application Development (TS&D) efforts within the HPP North America Melt Processing team.
  • When appropriate, personally take on TS or development projects.
  • Manage and report on North America TS&D project portfolio for HPP Melt Processing.
  • Performance Management and development of direct team; contributes input to PM for indirect team.
  • Work closely with HPP Business Development, Sales, Process Technology, and Manufacturing teams to deliver profitable growth while defending existing strategic business lines.


EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 7+ years of industrial experience in polymer applications & product development, with track record of innovation and creating intellectual property or a Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Specific experience in the melt processing of fluoropolymers, polyamides, and/or polyaryletherketones (PAEKs) is very desirable.
  • Prior experience in leading a technical team.
  • Proficient in Office 365 tools and other software used for planning and data analysis.


DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES:

  • Record of Innovation / New Product Development / Technical Service in area of thermoplastic polymers and composites.
  • Strong knowledge of polymer processing, compounding, and/or structure-property relationships.
  • Business acumen to work in partnership with the commercial market teams to define and prioritize opportunities.
  • Track record of collaboration with internal and external partners to drive innovation and new developments.
  • Proven record of strong safety performance and engagement.
  • Management of technical personnel and budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Effectively communicates and presents at multiple levels both internally and externally.
  • Understanding of intellectual property issues: patents, freedom-to-practice opinions, CDA, JDA, etc. Able to discern potential patent violations.
  • Understanding of relevant polymer chemistries and processes would be helpful.
  • Previous experience with SalesForce or other CRM software would be helpful.


This role requires 15 - 20% travel
