Job Title and General Duties: Surgery Coordinator
Assists in scheduling surgery, completion of surgery orders and other forms required by the surgical facility, and counseling of patients.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting, walking, some bending, stooping and stretching.

- Ability to adjust to various personalities.
- Ability to work with and without supervision and perform a variety of routine tasks.
- Previous ophthalmic office experience preferred, but required to possess working knowledge of surgical procedures, medical terminology, insurance benefits, and scheduling experience a plus.
Example of Duties Performed (this list is not all-inclusive):
- As appropriate, assists in screening patient phone calls and answering patient questions.
- Schedules all in-office procedures and/or surgery in the hospital/surgery center.
- Schedules pre-op and post-op follow up appointments either with our internal optometrists or the referring/co-managing optometrist.
- Prepares all documentation regarding surgery, including the financial fee sheets, consents, and surgical orders.
- Counsels patients regarding surgery, both in-office and by phone, and initiates financial arrangements for patients, when necessary.
- Contacts appropriate personnel at hospital or surgery scenter to schedule blocked time for surgeon and order appropriate supplies/reserve needed equipment in the operating room.
- Screen potential and existing patients by telephone and in person to determine appropriate appointment time and schedule following office protocols.
- Prepares surgical orders with clinical data for physician to complete and sign before surgery and delivers completed orders to the facility.
- Works closely with our billing department to ensure the use of correct coding per the surgery being scheduled. In addition, coordinates insurance benefits to assure the correct fees are collected up front.
- Serves as liaison between Coastal Vision Center and our co-managing optometrists to ensure that the co-managing release form is completed and accurate.
- Performs other job-related tasks as needed.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
