Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Project Development (VP), the Senior Engineering Manager (SEM) works directly with NineDot Energy's Vice President of Project Development, Senior Technical Manager (STM), Associate Engineering Managers (AEMs), and all levels of management throughout the organization to oversee the engineering design and permitting activities of our project development portfolio. The SEM will be responsible for planning and executing our internal process to complete designs for our projects and obtain all necessary permits for them to be built, including selection, management, and oversight of third party resources. The SEM will work directly with the VP and the STM to lead the effort to onboard one or more third party resources to complete final design and permitting for our 2024 project portfolio, and to manage those projects to a successful handoff to our Operations team for construction; in subsequent years, the SEM will manage all qualification and RFP opportunities with external engineering and permitting resources, as well as all ongoing engineering and permitting activities for the Project Development team. The position will have opportunities to have ownership and accountability over projects with potential for career growth.


Roles and responsibilities

  • Manage the process and team to complete engineering designs for our project portfolio.
  • Manage the process to obtain all necessary permits and approvals required to build our project portfolio.
  • Track and report on progress, issues, and outlook for project design and permitting activities.
  • Provide support to the Operations team during construction on issues related to project design and permitting, as needed.
  • Coordinate with hardware vendors for technical requirements and engineering specifications for use in project design and interconnection applications.
  • Coordinate and manage third party resources for engineering and/or other project development needs.
  • Provide support to the STM and VP of Project Development.
  • Provide support to the Product Development team in exploring new product types and evaluating technical constraints of new opportunities.
  • Operate autonomously, and report and escalate to management as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work or apprenticeship experience in business, engineering, or construction management.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of ProjectManagement/Development/Construction experience.
  • Experience working on at least one battery storage project permitting effort in New York City that successfully achieved approvals from the NYC Department of Buildings.
  • Passion/history for clean energy projects is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills with the ability to effectively convey information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keen ability to evaluate priorities and multi-task accordingly while keeping others apprised of status with respect to deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Must be detail and results-oriented with an ability to work in a cross-functional, fast paced, and constantly evolving environment.
  • Team player to work in concert with all teams.
  • Familiar with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Asana is a plus.
  • Proven track record of working with urgency and timeliness to deliver projects.
  • Strong personal organization and time management skills.
