Job Title: Senior Level Hydrogeologist/Water Resources Engineer/Water Resources Planner
Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt, Salaried
Reports to: CA Groundwater Practice Lead
Location: Santa Barbara, CA or San Luis Obispo, CA

GSI Water Solutions, Inc. (GSI), is seeking a skilled project manager with experience in California water supply issues to help manage a thriving and growing base of groundwater projects. Essential Functions
Technical work includes:
- Development of programs to support the implementation of GSPs including developing water allocation programs, marketing and water trading programs, fallowing programs, groundwater recharge programs, monitoring programs, supply projects.
- Depending on experience, management of projects involving basin analyses, aquifer characterization, and well design, construction oversight, and testing.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to address groundwater issues and problems.
- Generating technical reports and proposal materials.
- Providing review and oversight of project work and reports prepared by junior and mid-level staff members.
Managerial work includes responsibility for the:
- Management, budget, performance, billings, collections, and schedule control of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Mentoring and performance reviews of junior and mid-level staff.
- Independent and internal team collaborative implementation of strategic planning.
Business development work includes:
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective clients.
- Attending and presenting at professional conferences.
- Identifying new clients.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
This job is generally conducted in a professional office environment; however, GSI recognizes that applicants desire flexibility and may live out of the area and may work from a home office. It is expected that applicants would travel to and work out of the office for periods of time. The amount of time spent in the office and personal travel expenses will be negotiated. We follow CDC and CA Department of Public Health COVID-19 guidelines and are currently working remotely.
Travel and Field Work
General field activities consist of site visits and regulatory/client meetings. Travel to other company offices will be required as needed. Approximately 10-15 percent of work time will be spent traveling and working in the field. COVID-19 protocols are followed for all fieldwork activities and meetings are currently held over Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- California PG (preferably CHG) or California PE in civil engineering with a water resources specialty
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Required Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain the required knowledge and abilities include:
- BS degree in geology, water resource engineering, natural resources planning, hydrogeology, or a closely related field
- 10 or more years of water resources planning, water supply development, and/or groundwater experience, primarily in California, with established relationships and client network
- Proven track record of managing complex projects in the areas of water supply development, water resources planning, aquifer/basin studies, and groundwater management
- Understanding of the water resources sector in California, including market, competition, and clients
- Experience preparing work plans and technical reports as well as reviewing and interpreting data
- Experience with and a solid understanding of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).
Valued Education and Experience
- MS degree in hydrogeology or geology; or MS degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, or planning, environmental engineering
- Extensive central and southern California experience and water resources network
- Experience in the water resources consulting field.
