Assistant Controller
San Francisco Yacht Club

This is an easy commute via ferry service around the San Francisco Bay.

Compensation and Benefits: The salary range is $75,000 - $85,000 (D.O.E.); we provide paid time off, paid holidays, healthcare benefits, and a 401(k) with employer matching contributions.

Summary of Position:
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller by performing primary accounting duties including AR/AP, general accounting, assisting with costing, budgeting, month-end close and generation of reports. In addition, this position manages the HR functions such as payroll, benefits, policies, compliance, onboarding, and offboarding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Accounting Support

  • Tracks financial data, conducts bank reconciliation and generates month-end reports.
  • Assists with budget preparation and budget management for all departments, including providing guidance and assistance to the department heads by providing historical cost reports, labor history and trends.
  • Assist with annual audit and tax preparation.

Accounts Receivable/Payables

  • Reconciles daily activity to the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and the bank.
  • Reconciles and post daily credit card sales and daily sales and prepares bank deposits.
  • Pay billings through the accounting system.
  • Audits and updates banquet billing, party billing and member events in POS system.
  • On a daily basis, posts member charges for monthly dues, food and beverage, events to member accounts.
  • On a monthly basis, reconciles member accounts and sends out statements to members; responds to member statement questions / concerns.
  • Reviews adjustments, payment posting, and closing member statements monthly.

Member Services

  • Provides high level service by communicating with members and answering questions regarding their monthly fees, charges, and payments.
  • Coordinates with the membership committee regarding member applications.
  • Prepares new member welcome packages; sets up new member accounts and enters initiation fees; interacts with new members informing them of your role and how you can assist them.
  • Maintains accurate member records and files; maintains the log.
  • Maintains member function feedback questionnaires

Human Resources and Payroll

  • Works closely with departmental managers to ensure proper on-boarding,
  • Maintains accurate information in payroll system for all employees
  • Performs on-boarding process for new hires, including ensuring all required forms are completed, policies are reviewed, employee is set-up in payroll, and benefits are explained, and enrollment managed
  • Processes bi-weekly payroll using Paycor and automated timeclocks.
  • Prepares and prints payroll reports for expense tracking.
  • Assists in state and federal tax reporting and filing.
  • Maintains personnel files and ensures general privacy and HIPAA laws are followed.
  • Assists with employee benefits administration: including open enrollment, unemployment insurance and Workers Compensation insurance.
  • Maintains knowledge of federal, state and labor laws and assists in implementing and educating all staff.

  • Complete all other duties as assigned by the Controller and/or General Manager.

QUALITIES, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Business, or equivalent
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (Intermediate knowledge MS Suite)
  • Experience with accounting software is required (Northstar software, for clubs, is a plus)
  • Dependable and responsible with confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve using good judgement
  • Excellent organizational skills; detailed oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Able to prioritize conflicting demands quickly and appropriately
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentations)
  • Pleasant personality, strong customer service orientation
  • A team player who is eager to help the team succeed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, you will be primarily working at a desk / computer
  • You may be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
