Position Summary:
Research Specialists provide extensive legal and non-legal research and support services to attorneys, paralegals, other internal departments and all levels of staff as well as other departmental duties as assigned including training, creating and maintaining current awareness and alerts, management of the integrated library system and electronic resources, and other technical services.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides both quick reference and in-depth legal and non-legal research utilizing all available resources including print and online subscription databases.
- Prepares customized reports on clients and potential clients using social media, business, financial, and news databases; analyzes and summarizes findings.
- Provides training and support in the use of print and online resources for attorneys and staff.
- Prepares training guides, pathfinders and other user guides.
- Manages electronic resources including user authentication and password management, I.P. addresses, coordinating user licenses, monitoring resource usage and reporting.
- Assists with routine departmental tasks including processing acquisitions, checking in and routing print and electronic newsletters, interlibrary loan, document requests and shelving.
- Promotes the Department by maintaining a professional, service-orientated attitude and by keeping current on the needs and trends of the Firm.
- Performs any and all other duties as necessary as assigned by the Director of Research Services.
Position Requirements:
- Master's Degree in library/information science (from ALA accredited school), J.D., equivalent degree or experience preferred.
- High level expertise of legal and business databases such as Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, VitalLaw, Capital IQ, Hoovers as well as other major subject specific resources.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word and document management systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
