Overall Position Summary and Objectives
This position will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the NCI/DCEG.
Deliverables:
- Work products and documents related to coordinating the planning, implementation, and analytical projects that are relevant to cancer epidemiology; completing a statistical analysis, organizing, maintaining and bringing small projects to completion. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to transferring data between software, dataset creation, data cleaning, and data transformation; providing a cross-tabulation, descriptive analysis using standard statistical procedures, as well as model building. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to performing data analysis of a variety of physical activity assessment methods; assessing trends, determining correlations, testing for heterogeneity, and compiling and communicating results to investigators to participate in the interpretation of results and planning of further analyses. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to presenting data by preparing charts, tables, and graphs; collaborating with branch members to form and maintain study-specific webportals using standard developed software; supporting pre-and post-doctoral fellows with various web programs and graphing programs. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to researching and reviewing literature to retrieve targeted clinical or scientific information from publicly available resources; completing technical writing including co-authoring of articles for journal submission and writing of professional services agreements and statements of work. - Ad-Hoc
Work Details:
- Provides technical experience needed to assist in analyzing scientific and technical research projects.
- Collaborate with staff on scientific and technical research needs and requirements relating to program planning, analysis, communications and reporting functions.
- Work with staff to analyze scientific, technical, programmatic and administrative data to identify trends and accomplishments and to make budgetary and programmatic projections.
- Develop analytical documents that synthesizes and presents results of data analyses and draws inferences, outlines options, and makes recommendations that bear on program activities and policies
- Produce scientific, technical and operational graphics for use in internal and external communications, web.
- Provide scientific and technical reviews, editing and writing in support of the Institute's communication efforts seeking to publicize research advances, recruit patients to clinical trials and recruit high quality staff and trainees.
- Prepares various reports and presentations detailing analyses of data.
- Produce publication quality, informative graphical representations of images from research studies.
- Contribute to data quality control and analyze Annual Report System (ARS) data to develop reports and presentations.
- Develop reports and provide material to justify the results of evaluating programs and program operations.
- Work with staff on researching and drafting technical reports, analyzing data from the studies and publishing research findings.
- Performs basic research of various forms of scientific and technical literature and prepares summaries and in-depth reviews.
- Work with staff on researching and preparing scientific and technical briefings, presentations and other reports in response to various requests. 5
- Research and perform quality control programs using selected statistical methods for use in quality control analysis.
- Coordinates with staff in order to communicate research progress and results.
- Work with staff to coordinate and develop responses to requests for information about the Institute's research activities. 4
- Develop presentations for use by senior leadership to convey program accomplishments and key facts for use for both internal and external audiences. 3
- Recommend changes and improvements in research processes and procedures.
- Research and draft recommendations to improve scientific, technical and operational processes and workflows. 1
- Design and present variety of standardized scientific, technical, operational and performance summaries, reports and dashboards. 2
- Coordinate the planning, implementing, and analytical projects relevant to cancer epidemiology.
- Interact with all levels of staff and communicate with outside collaborators in the US and abroad.
- Complete a statistical analysis, organizing, maintaining and bringing small projects to completion, reviewing literature, creating bibliographies, researching methods in data analysis, and revising study forms.
- Transfer data between software, dataset creation (merge and/or concatenation), data cleaning (identify and correct data entry errors and/or missing values) and data transformation (create and categorize variables; impute data).
- Provide a cross-tabulation, descriptive analysis using standard statistical procedures, as well as model building (logistic regression, conditional logistic regression, Cox regression, polytomous regression).
- Perform data analysis of a variety of physical activity assessment methods (questionnaires, recalls, accelerometers), and mortality and cancer registry data; determine correlations between variables; test for heterogeneity among various health outcomes.
- Present data by preparing charts, tables, and graphs, using software such as PowerPoint, Excel, Graphpad/Prism, that can be used for scientific monographs, book chapters, and professional presentations (including poster and oral presentations).
- Research and review literature to retrieve targeted clinical or scientific information from publicly available resources, such as PubMED, National Library of Medicine, and other government publications (e.g., the CDC varied survey response databases), and other resources as needed.
- Collaborate with branch members to form and maintain study-specific web-portals using standard developed software.
- Prepare articles for journal submission, correspondence to related staff or scientists,
- communications to IRBs, and study protocol content update or revision.
- Coordinate and participate in meetings and conference calls between PIs, contractors and
- Collaborators includes taking and posting minutes on the web-portals.
- Coordinate with appropriate NIH federal staff and contractors in setting up contracts for laboratory work. Contract documents may only be approved by NIH federal staff.
- Perform data analysis, including, but not limited to, assessing trends, determining correlations, testing for heterogeneity, and compiling and communicating results to investigators to participate in the interpretation of results and planning of further analyses.
