Position Summary:

• Transports all patients to and from Imaging Department. This includes CT, Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, and Mammography. Transports patient via cart, wheelchair, or other appropriate method. Transports patient with pump(s), oxygen, or other devices and patient support equipment.

What You Will Do:

• Transports patient to and from all patient care areas to Imaging. Reports changes in patient condition to appropriate nurse or technical staff.
• Disconnects and re-connects patient from monitoring devices. Informs nursing responsible for that patient of actions taken or requests assistance from nursing.
• Operates lifting and bed equipment.
• Operates and maintains oxygen and other patient support equipment or requests assistance from nursing or technical staff.
• Checks all patient requests to know mode of transportation and if any special instructions are present prior to transporting.
• Notifies nursing units that patients are leaving floor ‑ also responsible for signing patient on and off floor. If patient has been held NPO, informs nurses when exam is complete.
• Transports patients to and from Emergency Room as needed.
• Responsible for x‑ray department wheelchairs and carts. Knows where they are and returns them to department.
• Transports patient to department via cart, wheelchair, or other appropriate mode of transportation. Assists technologists in moving patients on to x‑ray table from cart or wheelchair. Assists in lifting, turning, and transferring patient from bed to transport equipment.
• Communicates any transport delays or concerns, maintaining continuous contact with department staff and patient care areas.
• Knowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care according to patient’s age. Technologist will most frequently care for adults and geriatric patients; and, on occasion, adolescents, children, infants, and neonates.
• Works in front office as needed, answering phone or assisting with basic clerical tasks.
• Assists technologists with ancillary tasks related to basic patient care.
• Makes copies of images as needed.
• May be asked to assist on portable exams; may be asked to take portable C-arm to patient rooms, surgery, or emergency department.
• Wears film badge at collar level at all times. Uses time, distance, and shielding to minimize exposure to radiation.

What You Will Need:

• Must be currently certified in CPR, and be re-certified bi-annually.
• Ability to maintain a positive impression of the Medical Center at all times.
• Uses proper body mechanics to assist in pushing, pulling, and lifting patients from carts, wheelchair, or other transport devises onto imaging table/couch.
• Ability to communicate and understand oral and written communication.
• Ability to communicate effectively with management, physicians, co‑workers and patients.
