Direct Supervisor: Camp Director

Position: Part-Time/Seasonal Position

Overview of Position

The Lead Cook position is vital to Cedar Springs Camp. The Lead Cook is the leader for all kitchen and dining hall staff and volunteers. Their duties include leading staff, menu selection, food ordering, food preparation and meeting all state regulations concerning food service. They will be responsible for the effective training of all staff and volunteers.

Experience/Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience cooking in a restaurant or cafeteria style environment
  • Current ServeSafe certification
  • Experience with food allergies and creative menu preparation
  • Ability to plan and cook for groups of 20 and up to 150 guests
  • Ability to abide by all camp policies as well as Statement of Faith

Kitchen Operation

  • Planning age-appropriate, well-balanced meals
  • Ordering and storing food for guest groups in timely manner
  • Keeping track of food costs on a per plate basis
  • Manage food preparation and serving to ensure state and federal regulations are met
  • Responsible for quality control, cleanliness, and training with staff and volunteers
  • Has basic understanding of computer skills for web-based ordering
  • Prepare food and teach the kitchen staff proper cooking techniques
  • Ensure meals are prepared in timely manner as per guest requests and schedule
  • Ensure food quality and pleasant presentation for the guests
  • Be proactive in developing creative and healthy menus
  • Complete reports in timely manner as required by position
  • Act as contact person for all regulators, equipment representatives, and guest leaders for food service issues
  • Coordinate with camp staff to ensure food allergies and special diet needs are met
  • Other duties as assigned by Camp Director

Compensation

The position will pay $15-17 per hour based on experience

Additional Information

Any employment with Cedar Springs Camp and Retreat as “At-Will” and can be terminated by either party at any time. The position will begin May 22, 2023, and will end on July 31, 2023. There will be opportunities for weekend/special event work after July 31, as camp needs/budget allow. There is no guarantee for additional employment after July 31, 2023.
