  • Must have extensive knowledge of different types of coverage & policies.
  • Must have excellent multitasking skills, w/ the ability to work on many multiple projects at once.
  • Must be very detail-oriented & organized able to maintain accurate patient insurance records.
  • Important to have the ability to focus & work quickly, as insurance paperwork commonly needs to be processed in a timely manner.
  • Must work will w/ others as he/she will work as part of a health care team, striving to provide patients w/ the best care possible.
  • Requires to spend extensive amounts of time on the phone w/ insurance companies.
  • Serves as a valuable resource to patients, providing them w/ pertinent information regarding their coverage so they can understand why some procedures may be covered, while others are not.
  • Verify insurance eligibility & benefits (i.e., deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance) for new (and existing) patients
  • Verify Medical referral requirements, including modifier coding, etc.
  • Update Insurance information for existing patients
  • Call to obtain pre-authorizations for recommended (or required) services.
  • Explain to patients what their financial responsibilities will be.
  • Inform relevant clinical staff about denials
  • New patient in-takes.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Record retrieval and releases to insurance companies, patients.
  • Retrieval of vision / medical records payments.
  • Check-in patients / answer multiple phone lines.
  • Checking out patients as needed.
  • Entering checks (insurance & patients).
  • Checking and re-submitting claims that have denied (NOT paid).
  • Prefer: Candidate to have at least one year of hospital (or medical office) billing experience.
