- Important to have the ability to focus & work quickly, as insurance paperwork commonly needs to be processed in a timely manner.
- Must work will w/ others as he/she will work as part of a health care team, striving to provide patients w/ the best care possible.
- Requires to spend extensive amounts of time on the phone w/ insurance companies.
- Serves as a valuable resource to patients, providing them w/ pertinent information regarding their coverage so they can understand why some procedures may be covered, while others are not.
- Verify insurance eligibility & benefits (i.e., deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance) for new (and existing) patients
- Verify Medical referral requirements, including modifier coding, etc.
- Update Insurance information for existing patients
- Call to obtain pre-authorizations for recommended (or required) services.
- Explain to patients what their financial responsibilities will be.
- Inform relevant clinical staff about denials
- New patient in-takes.
- Schedule appointments.
- Record retrieval and releases to insurance companies, patients.
- Retrieval of vision / medical records payments.
- Check-in patients / answer multiple phone lines.
- Checking out patients as needed.
- Entering checks (insurance & patients).
- Checking and re-submitting claims that have denied (NOT paid).
- Prefer: Candidate to have at least one year of hospital (or medical office) billing experience.
