Location: Laurel, MD

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach in the Digital Media and Web Technology Program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course:

Image Editing-(CMST 325, 3 Credits)-An introduction to digital image editing using Adobe Photoshop. The aim is to identify established digital image editing tools, techniques, and best practices; create new images; and edit existing images. Topics include terminology, tools, theory, and processes from concept to completion. The discussion covers fundamental concepts and practical techniques, as well as ethical and legal issues. Emphasis is on applying these concepts and techniques to produce high-quality digital works for multiple platforms, including print, web, and other electronic media.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Professional experience in graphic design, specifically using Adobe Photoshop for image editing.

  • Knowledge and experience with the following software: Adobe Photoshop.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., etc.) from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Experience teaching adult learners and distance education is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Word).

The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC

  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.

  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.

  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.

  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
