Job Summary
The Duke Trauma Pediatric Injury Prevention (IP) Coordinator is responsible for ongoing pediatric injury prevention initiatives as well as development and implementation of new injury prevention programs. Activities will be local and regional.
Hours: Equivalent to 30 hours/week (eligible for full-time benefits)
Location: Hybrid; Travel to Events-both local and regionally
Primary Responsibilities
- Supports and adheres to Duke Hospital’s policies, procedures, philosophy and mission, applying customer service standards and excellence in attitude and behaviors in performing all job responsibilities.
- Coordinates Safe Kids Program for Durham County
- Coordinates pediatric injury prevention activities of Duke Trauma Center
- Coordinates Child Passenger Safety Program for local areas
- Identifies opportunities for injury prevention programming in the local and regional communities and collaborates with key personnel in those areas for program implementation
- Develop and implement new pediatric injury prevention programs as needed based on the trauma registry data
- Participates in Performance Improvement initiatives for the Trauma Center.
- Evaluates the performance impact of planned outreach programs. Responsible for developing goals, objectives, strategies in collaboration with the Trauma Center team
- Represent the Duke Trauma Center and Emergency Service CSU in a variety of local and regional public forums, to include professional meetings, developing and participating in educational programs.
- Provides contact between Duke Trauma Center and the Duke RAC members related to pediatric injury prevention efforts
- Track and disseminate legislative information regarding injury prevention
- Function as a resource person for the RAC members
- Write and monitor grants for injury prevention materials and research
- Participate in research related to injury prevention initiatives
- Participate in state trauma meeting.
- Maintain a professional image by participating in assigned management activities, volunteer organizations, and remaining current in trends and changes in the trauma venue.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications
Education
Work requires completion of a Bachelor's degree; strongly preferred BSN.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ experience in health education and prevention
- Minimum of 5 years of pediatric health care experience. Experience with children who have complex medical needs is preferred
- Demonstrated ability of successful interpersonal communications and customer service skills
- Experience in educational programming and systems development
- Proficiency with basic computer skills
- Bachelor’s degree in health related field with a preference for BSN.
- Certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician or obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Additional certification required for children with special health care needs within 2 years of hire
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Physical abilities to complete job duties and responsibilities under prescribed environmental and working conditions
- Ability to lift 20 pounds from shoulder height and lower to floor.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of five years of experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of business-related education, training and/or development programs, preferably in a research environment.
