Finance Coordinator (Bookkeeper)
Job description
We are looking for a creative problem solver who loves identifying and correcting errors and working with smart, committed colleagues. The Finance Coordinator (Bookkeeper) provides financial data management and tracking for Moving Traditions’ Finance & Operations team. They are responsible for accurately recording all day-to-day financial transactions for the organization. This part-time, 20-hours per week staff position is suited for a detail-oriented individual with General Ledger accounting system proficiency and accounting experience.
While this is a mostly remote staff position, the ideal candidate for this role will be located in the Philadelphia, PA area and will be able to travel to the Moving Traditions mailbox in Elkins Park, PA on a weekly or twice weekly basis.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY
Moving Traditions emboldens Jewish youth to thrive through the pursuit of personal wellbeing (shleimut), caring relationships (hesed), and a Jewish and feminist vision of equity and justice (tzedek). Combining positive psychology with Jewish values, we partner with Jewish institutions across North America to engage Jewish teens, families, and communities. Since its founding in January 2005, Moving Traditions has championed impact-focused youth-serving programs at the intersection of gender, wellbeing, and Judaism. Our suite of programs includes Moving Traditions B-Mitzvah Family Education Program for preteens and parents; Teen Groups for teens as they self-identify, with Rosh Hodesh for girls, Shevet for boys, Tzelem for LGBTQ+ teens; the Kulam curriculum for Hebrew High School settings; the Kol Koleinu Teen Feminist Fellowship; and Kumi: An Anti-Oppression Teen Leadership Experience. Finally, through CultureShift, Moving Traditions trains professionals who work with Jewish teens at camp and elsewhere about how to create healthy culture around gender, boundaries, and consent, and more.
Requirements:- Maintains accounting ledgers, posting transaction entries
- Filing of Charitable registrations
- Record and pay accounts payable
- Applies cash received to open accounts and deposits cash in bank
- Assists the Controller with audit deliverables
- Update Chart of Accounts
- Responsible for in bill payment, invoicing, expense reimbursement.
- Works with Controller to assist in monthly bank and CRM reconciliations and completes daily accounting activities required to maintain accurate financials
- Assists in the smooth flow of financial information to/from Controller to ensure accurate, complete, and timely preparation of monthly close.
- Prepares ad hoc financial reports as needed; assists in problem solving
- Generates annual Form 1099’s
- Assists with information/data management including document retrieval/storage, scanning, and filing documents
- Travel to Moving Traditions’ Elkins Park, PA mailbox weekly or twice weekly to retrieve bills
- Other tasks assigned as needed
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

- Embrace Moving Traditions’ mission
- At least 2-3 years of experience in non-profit accounting
- Understanding and experience with Sage / Peachtree (or similar programs) and use of GL chart of accounts for non-profits
- Accounts receivable experience
- Accounts payable experience
- Excellent communication and timeliness on reporting
- Ability to travel to the Elkins Park mailbox to retrieve bills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with programmatic, fundraising, and administrative staff
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with keen attention to detail and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, organize workload, manage competing demands, meet deadlines
- Highest level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- Good basic to intermediate level Microsoft Office and PC software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred or applicable experience
COMPENSATION
Compensation at Moving Traditions is determined based on the salary band for the role and adjusted based on cost of living where the final candidate resides. The yearly salary range for this role is between $27,500 and $30,000 for 20 hours/week. Moving Traditions provides paid time off for vacation and sick leave, many Jewish holidays, and major national holidays.

- Applicants moved forward will have a phone screening with a member of Moving Traditions HR team.
- Applicants that move forward from the screening interview will have a first-round interview with the Hiring Manager.
- Applicants that move forward from the first-round interview will be asked to take an accounting test.
- The final round interview will be with the CFOO and the CEO.
- Three professional references will be requested at the end of the interview process.
- The final hire will be dependent on successfully passing a background check.
