The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Alaska Marine Highway System is looking for a Ferry Terminal Manager 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Do you have customer service experience and enjoy being outside? The Ferry Terminal is Hiring! The Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Alaska Marine Highway System is recruiting for a Full Time Ferry Terminal Manager I for the Homer Terminal to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Along with Facility Management, Customer Service, Supervision and administrative responsibilities, You will ensure that operations are conducted according to AMHS and USCG regulations and protocols, officiate terminal and dock security, line handling, ship docking and hydraulic ramp operations.
Become an integral part of a local community in the Great State of Alaska, and work with the DOT&PF and AMHS Central Office to facilitate travel and provide a cohesive Marine Transportation system for its members, Alaskans and its frequent visitors.

Who we are looking for:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, and the ability to train, mentor, evaluate and discipline subordinate staff. Show exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively and tactfully with customers; identify issues, explain regulations and policies, evaluate alternatives and resolve conflicts.
- Experience using on-line reservations and ticketing system used to determine departure and arrival times, fares and available accommodations and services. Competency in using the Internet and proficiencies in Microsoft Office are required.
- Knowledge of the principles of tourism, travel regulations, marketing and sales.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in adverse weather conditions and potentially hazardous areas.
Two years of experience assisting the general public in making travel plans and reservations and providing travelers with useful travel information, which included researching and maintaining information in a computerized reservations system.
OR
Two years of experience at a commercial dock which included tying and untying vessels, loading or unloading cargo, or assisting embarking or disembarking passengers; and which included extracting and entering information in a computerized manifest or lading system or similar system.
Special Note:
33 CFR, Part 105, and US Coast Guard NVIC 03-07 require that all incumbents performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this job class maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for access to federally-defined restricted areas within a maritime facility. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a valid TWIC within 30 days of employment.
The work environment requires incumbents of all positions in this job class have the physical ability to lift and carry heavy weights, work in inclement weather, and work on docks and catwalks above cold water.
Terminal business hours and staff schedules are determined and/or adjusted based on varying AHMS vessel sailings and may be subject to change with minimal advanced notice. Incumbents may be required to work fluctuating schedules, split shifts, and/or be available to report any time for work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including holidays), in order to respond to port calls as needed.
All positions in this class require incumbents to operate motor vehicles, possess a regular driver's license, and be 18 years of age or older.
