Our firm practices exclusively family law in the counties of Ventura and Los Angeles. We are a busy, bustling and growing office located in Westlake Village, CA. and we are seeking a highly competent legal secretary/assistant or paralegal to complement our existing team. We focus on high conflict dissolution, paternity and modification cases involving complex financial, child custody, support and domestic violence issues.

Any candidate for this position must have at least 2 years' recent family law experience in Ventura County and/or Los Angeles County. Experience in both counties is ideal.

You should be confident in your ability to effectively assist in navigating a family law case from beginning to end. You should be comfortable interacting with clients, gathering facts, assisting clients in preparing their Preliminary Declaration of Disclosure, drafting all types of correspondence, drafting Requests for Orders with accompanying declarations and points and authorities, drafting and responding to discovery and preparing meet and confer letters, communicating with court staff and experts including forensic accountants, managing attorney schedules, on-line calendaring, and tracking attorney billing time. The more familiarity you have with the local rules of court, California Rules of Court, California Family Code, California Evidence Code and Code of Civil Procedure, the better. You should be familiar with Judicial Council forms, calendaring systems, Dropbox, Outlook, Word and other computer programs, including legal software programs such as Essential Forms, DissoMaster, Attorneys' Briefcase, PracticePanther, etc. You should also be highly proficient in doing legal research and you should be an excellent writer who is very detail oriented.

In this position, you will be primarily assisting the firm's attorneys in handling all aspects of a heavy caseload. In addition to the duties discussed above, you will assist with responding to phone calls, emails, and client needs, as well as assist in the handling of the many unexpected, unplanned, uncalendared and crazy circumstances which tend to occur on a daily basis. Of course, you will also be working with other firm members on additional tasks as needed, and you will be reviewing pleadings and documents prepared by all office staff to ensure accuracy.
