Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean of Academics reports to the Head of School.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Articulates a clear instructional vision alongside the head of school and principals with a school-wide focus on teaching and learning that is data-driven, standards-aligned, and rooted in a belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
  • Design and lead professional development sessions that support teachers in engaging students in rigorous tasks, and providing coherent, standards-based learning experiences from Pre-K through graduation.
  • Lead and participate in principal meetings that are focused on high-leverage practices that increase capacity for instructional leadership.
  • Articulates the curriculum content and the skills students must have for each grade level that is aligned to the Common Core State Standards and other content-specific standards.
  • Provides support and continuity to the School Enrichment Model.
  • Assists principals in ensuring that external professional development requests are aligned with the school’s annual priorities.
  • Design and train faculty on effective meeting practices and protocols grounded in student data.
  • Develop principal and department chair capacity to analyze teacher practice through ongoing classroom observations, data analysis, and examination of student work.
  • Create training and systems for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers.
  • Design and lead content-specific professional development sessions with faculty that are aligned with the school’s strategic plan.
  • Fosters collaboration and teacher leadership.
  • Participates actively in the school’s curriculum committee and other committees as needed by the head of school.
  • Assists principals and department chairs in the process of selection of textbooks, equipment, and instructional supplies.
  • Assist in the establishment of procedures for the accreditation program and monitor accreditation standards at the school.
