This position is responsible for student staff selection, training and supervision for New Student and Family Orientation, SPARK (Summer Priority Advising & Registration Kick-off), and other first-year student programs. The Coordinator works closely with the Director of New Student and Family Programs to design and implement Family Weekend, Parent Chats, and other ongoing initiatives to involve families of students in the Marquette experience. Additionally, as part of a team of student development specialists, the Coordinator assists in the design and implementation of peer education, leadership development, and community service programs for students and student organizations. As a staff member in the Office of Student Development, the Coordinator for New Student and Family Programs is expected to undertake all responsibilities in a manner that reflects the Catholic, Jesuit mission of the University as well as the principles of student development theory.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develops and implements recruitment, selection, and training processes for student paraprofessionals (5 paid, full-time planning team members; 30 paid team SPARK leaders and 100 volunteer Orientation leaders and program assistants).
2. Recruits, selects, and supervises two Orientation Graduate Interns. Revises position description annually: assigns projects and on-going tasks based on needs of program.
3. Implements the SPARK, New Student Orientation, and Winter Orientation (encompassing first-year, transfer and family programs) programs in consultation with the Director of New Student and Family Programs, area heads in the Division of Student Affairs, Campus Ministry, Undergraduate Admissions, academic associate/assistant deans, faculty and selected academic staff.
4. Provides administrative support and coordinates operational details for each program, including program announcements and communication with participants, arranging for all programmatic and housing facilities as well as other logistics pertaining to equipment, catering, transportation, Marquette Police, and entertainment.
5. Develops and implements virtual elements into large-scale program utilizing Microsoft Suite and other virtual platforms with support and assistance from Marquette IT and the Office of Marketing and Communication.
6. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of New Student and Family Programs.
  • Serves as a university conduct administrator and advises student conduct hearing boards as needed.
  • Participates in Division of Student Affairs committees, activities, and programs.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of student assessments and program evaluations.
  • With the other members of the staff team and student leaders, designs and implements peer education, leadership development, intercultural education, and community service programs.
  • Provides on-site supervision for selected evening and weekend events.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field and 2 or more years of related experience
or
Master’s degree in student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field with some related experience.

Strong independent decision-making skills and can work with little or no supervision.
Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of various computer technology including Microsoft Suite, YouTube, Canva, Adobe, and various social media platforms.
Commitment to, knowledge of and experience with leadership training and intercultural programming.

Availability to work some nights and weekends when needed to ensure a quality student experience is an expectation for the position.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Fluency in Spanish preferred.
