Your Impact
As a key member of the CAID Automation’s Engineering team, you design and develop custom controls systems for automated manufacturing systems. You are responsible for the design of control systems on automation equipment to meet customer and project requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designs and develops control systems and software programs specific to customer and project requirements based on standard programming methods when applicable.
- Selects and integrates hardware and software components such as robots, grippers, load cells, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers.
- Debugs and commissions’ software programs at CAID Automation during systems integration phase and then at the Customer’s site during installation.
- Collaborate with Machine Builders, Mechanical Designers, Project Managers, and vendors
- Performs engineering calculations with respect to power consumption, current capacity, shielding, signal integrity, risk assessment, etc., as related to automation machinery designs.
- Formulates and produces a complete electrical design package which includes detailed schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and 3rd party specifications, based on CAID Automation standard specifications and the customer’s requirements.
- Mentor junior designers and supports Machine Builders and Electrical Technicians during the build phase
- Travels as required to Customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning, and training tasks.
- Consults regularly with Project Managers to report status, raise issues, take direction, and assist where able.
You’ll Be Great At
- Ability to create, modify, and integrate new PLC and HMI programs. Studio 5000, FT View Studio preferred
- Experience developing system electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Ability to modify existing vision applications.
- Robot experience, preferably Staubli, Fanuc or ABB.
- Experience developing applications in either C#, MS Visual Studio, .Net.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Level of Autonomy and Authority
- Works without detailed supervision, but within clear guidelines, defined standards and specifications. Difficult, complex or unusual matters are referred to more senior authority
- May guide and monitor the work of other staff working on a project basis
- Provides input and makes recommendations to management in areas of improvement
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, specializing in controls systems design or software engineering. BSEE degree preferred.
- 3 to 7 plus years’ experience writing software and electrical design for automation systems
- Demonstrated success functioning as a controls design engineer on multiple automation projects
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to cross international borders. (Passport required)
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
