This position serves as the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital providing senior executive leadership in strategic and operational activities that integrate physician practice into the hospital’s overall strategic plan and operations. This position is responsible for facilitating medical staff interactions with Hospital Administration and the Governing Board and assuring effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission and vision of Saratoga Hospital.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

- Physician Practice Integration and Performance: Actively participates in the analysis of joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions and/or other potential relationships involving internal and external medical practice groups. Actively participates in the establishment of performance standards for physician practices. Participates in monitoring the effectiveness of physician practices. Ensures that performance standards incorporate elements that focus on the improvement of health care delivery to patient populations and metrics that assess population health improvement.
- Strategic Planning: Participates in hospital strategic planning and ensures that medical staff input is incorporated into such planning. Oversees, directs and supports the promulgation of medical staff policies that contribute to a highly effective medical staff membership. Ensures high quality care for patients and supports hospital strategic objectives.
- Medical Staff Alignment: Works with non-employed physician groups and independent practitioners to collaboratively establish performance standards that ensure high quality care and outcomes for patients. Manages all medical director contracts and expectations for performance.
- Performance Management and Clinical Information Technology: Actively participates in the creation of clinical quality improvement activities including the use of technology and clinical informatics. Provides clinical leadership and input in the development of the electronic medical record and clinical applications that advance innovative patient care initiatives and encourage active physician participation.
- Medical Manpower: Assumes the lead responsibility for assessing community needs for physicians and establishing a medical manpower plan to respond to those needs. Actively engages with key community stakeholders and medical staff to create a strategic plan to achieve medical manpower objectives.
- Regulatory Knowledge and Compliance: Maintains a working knowledge of applicable national, state and local laws and regulations, Joint Commission, NCQA and other regulatory requirements affecting the medical and allied health staff. Effectively communicates regulatory issues and requirements to members of the medical staff to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Physician Leadership Development: Responsible for developing, nurturing and coaching physician leaders. Assures physician leaders are supported and are actively engaged in medical staff and hospital planning and quality improvement activities. Identifies applicable physician leadership development opportunities and identifies candidates for participation. Solicits input from key constituencies to create and develop a leadership development program that advances physician leaders in the organization.
- Credentialing: Ensures appointment of medical staff and allied health privileges are compliant with sound credentialing practices. Leads the credentialing and OPPE process to ensure competence and quality of providers.
- Medical Staff Committees, Bylaws and Policies Oversight: Oversees preparation of agenda and materials for Medical Executive Committee and other medical staff committees. Ensures that medical staff is represented and is actively engaged in department meetings, performance improvement activities and root cause analysis (RCAs) as necessary. Assures the ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of medical staff services.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training & Experience
- Minimum of seven or more years of clinical practice, participation in a leadership role in medical staff organization activities.
- Proven experience in creating and implementing physician integration strategies required.
- Minimum of three years of executive management experience required.
- Experience with hospital owned medical group practices required.
- Experience with medical home preferred.
Certifications / Licensure
- MD or DO with unrestricted medical license required.
