We are currently seeking dependable and hospitable applicants for a part-time morning host position. Applicants must be available weekends and Holidays; must be flexible with schedule; must have a professional appearance and a positive attitude. Prior hostess experience is preferred. Shift start is 6am.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Smile and be hospitable.
- Meet and greet guests as they arrive, offer seating, then escort them to their table and present menu.
- Read, maintain and make daily pre-shift meetings in a managers absence to staff to inform of specials, promotions, and pertinent ongoing upgrades of information.
- Maintain and continually upgrade proper set-up of dining room and enforce uniform and grooming standards of all service personnel continually.
- Receive, record and make any necessary arrangements for reservations and special functions in the restaurant.
- Promptly answer Room Service calls, announce any specials, promote menu items and answer questions regarding preparation methods. Be knowledgeable about the menu.
- Document orders, repeat items back to callers to ensure accuracy and quote expected arrival time with speed and accuracy. Repeat guest name or room number to ensure accuracy as well.
- Answer calls for pick-up of trays and/or tables and direct bus persons to retrieve items.
- Respond to guest complaints in a positive manner, negotiate a compromise and implement solution.
- Maintain clean and organized work station.
OTHER:
Regular attendance in conformance with hotel standards, policies and procedures. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel including all holidays.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.
- Maintain an open line of communication between guests, management and line employees.
- Carry coffee and/or tea pots throughout outlet, refilling guests’ cups as requested.
- Supplement the bus help in clearing and resetting the tables.
- Perform any duties as requested by supervisors.
- Keep track of room service staff to make sure orders are being handled promptly.
- Perform any other duties as requested.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Ability to read, write and eloquently & professionally speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, special promotions, record orders, communicate with guests, & effectively give direction to staff.
- Ability to fully comprehend guest requests and respond positively to memos, reservations, promotional materials, event orders, and similar written materials.
- Knowledge of all menu items and accompaniments.
- Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
- Ability to operate a keyboard to input Point of Sales procedures to pre-check, input order and close out the check.
- Ability to move throughout a crowded room to seat guests.
- Ability to effectively deal with customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner. This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the customer and providing positive and proactive solutions.
- Perform any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned. Adhere to health standards. Follow checklist as provided by your direct manager.
- Remain courteous, friendly and professional to co-workers and supervisors at all times.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
EDUCATION Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school diploma preferred.
EXPERIENCE Restaurant hostess
GROOMING All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well groomed appearance and wear a name badge daily.
