TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT

SITE BASED INSTRUCTIONAL COACH


Two positions available:

1) Middle School Math Instructional Coach

2) High School Math Instructional Coach


JOB SUMMARY

The Instructional Coach will be responsible for coaching and supporting teachers and instructional support staff at all grade levels using the coaching cycle to ensure teachers can successfully integrate research-based instructional strategies into their daily instruction to meet the needs of all students and increase student achievement.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California Teaching Credential, English Learning Authorization, and NCLB Highly Qualified
  • Three years classroom teaching experience
  • Master’s Degree is preferred
  • Evidence of experience in assisting and enhancing the professional growth of colleagues
  • Experience as a resource, mentor, or lead teacher
  • Willingness to continue to seek professional development


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation; one from a supervisor and one from a peer
  • Attend all scheduled Instructional Coaching trainings held during the school year
  • Commit to attend training
  • Serve for a term of up to five years with rights back to a “like” teaching position in the district thereafter


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain current knowledge of educational research, materials, and strategies by attending meetings, trainings, and conferences pertaining to the quality of instruction
  • Provide demonstration lessons, co-planning, co-teaching, observation and coaching to ensure successful implementation of research based strategies
  • Plan collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide instruction that is aligned to the state standards and research based strategies
  • Plan, design, and deliver meaningful professional learning and development for teachers and instructional support staff
  • Participate in grade-level team meetings and staff development sessions
  • Provide modeling and promote the use of differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students, including those with special learning and language needs. (Special Education, GATE, English Language Learners)
  • Work with site administration in determining school site’s professional development needs based on assessment data, site action plans and site goals
  • Attend meetings, trainings and professional learning as directed by the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, or designee

  • California State Content Standards, ELD Standards and California Standards for the Teaching Profession
  • Current practices to improve student achievement and accelerate learning
  • Curriculum design, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Principles and practices of leadership, management, and training
  • Effective research-based instructional practices
  • Data analysis and implications for program development
  • Standards-based instruction and assessment


ABILITY TO:

  • Demonstrate above average knowledge and understanding of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Establish and maintain productive collaboration relationships with others
  • Plan and organize work including creating schedules and meeting deadlines
  • Analyze and interpret assessment results for the purpose of designing and modifying instruction
  • Operate office equipment including a computer with a variety of software related to job requirements
  • Uses and shares a variety of instructional strategies; applies knowledge of methods of supporting and extending instruction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of correct English grammar and usage
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Use effective interpersonal skills including professionalism, tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Work across grade levels
  • Perform a wide variety of specialized tasks; interprets and applies rules and regulations as appropriate.
  • Occasional district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours

Physical Demands;
Walk, look downward, turn neck (up to continuously) sit, bend (frequently); stand, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, (occasionally; kneel, crawl. Climb (infrequently); grasp/manipulate materials & supplies (continuously); lift items to 10 pounds (frequently), carry to 10 pounds (occasionally), lift/carry to 40 pounds (infrequently); use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuous).


Working Conditions:
Indoor classrooms and workspaces, exposure to: office equipment noises, driving, temperature changes, dust, pesticides and smoke (seasonally), outside areas on school/district campuses.
