Youth Director – Part Time

Position Summary: We are prayerfully searching for a dynamic Christian person with a passion for helping the next generation to know, love, and share Jesus.

Ideal Candidate: An ideal candidate will be passionate about sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that young people can hear, understand, and engage in their own faith journeys. Applicants who wish to become ordained in the United Methodist Church are welcome to apply, but this is not an appointed position.

Salary Range: FUMC will pay a competitive wage for the position with exact compensation determined based upon specifics of the chosen candidate.

Office hours will be established around student events and meetings: 15-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Keep Jesus at the center of all programming;
  • Build a sustainable ministry for the youth that includes meaningful opportunities for worship, Christian education, missions, and fellowship;
  • Recruit and equip the necessary leadership teams of adults to mentor and lead;
  • Work with our clergy to generate a curriculum consistent with United Methodist beliefs;
  • Build genuine relationships with the youth and their families;
  • Grow small group youth ministry in spaces beyond the church doors;
  • Create dynamic spaces for worship and gathering that are both invitational and safe;
  • Work collaboratively with a team to create a cohesive discipleship plan from birth to 12th grade;
  • Empower the youth to use their God given gifts in mission and ministry;
  • Create an effective communication mechanism to reach youth and their families.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Be a person of integrity and a personal faith in Jesus Christ;
  • Be familiar and able to share a United Methodist doctrine;
  • Have experience leading an effective youth ministry;
  • Have a basic understanding of teens and the issues they face;
  • Have a foundational education in Biblical Studies;
  • Have proven success with recruiting and coordinating volunteers for ministry and/or events;
  • Be well organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Possess proficient computer skills;
  • Be able to effectively communicate with the congregation about youth ministries;
  • Be vested in collaborating with church staff.
