SUMMARY: Under close supervision, conducts chemical bacteriological analysis for the City of Roswell Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepares lab equipment and materials for use; maintains and cleans lab equipment and glassware.
• Collects samples from throughout the City of Roswell’s water distribution system.
• Assists with performing various tests for quality control, quality assurance, and control purposes of water and wastewater; conducts bacteriological tests and analysis on treated and raw wastewater samples.
• Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Graduation from a standard senior or vocational high school, or the equivalent.

Knowledge of:

• City and Department policies and procedures.
• EPA regulations and standards.
• Proper use of laboratory equipment, including personal protective equipment.
• Sampling methods for water distribution systems.

Skill in:

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Conducting laboratory analysis in accordance with proper safety procedures

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Driver's License issued by the State of New Mexico and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess a New Mexico issued Level I Wastewater Facilities Operator’s certification, or obtain certification within one year of appointment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in laboratory and throughout the wastewater treatment plant. Requires constant physical efforts, and operation of a City vehicle, dangerous tools, and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including proper use of safety equipment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.
• Must pass a pre-employment limited physical given by a City – designated physician.
• Must pass a pre-employment limited drug screen administered by a City – designated facility.

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:

Incumbents and candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City’s insurance carrier.
