Overview:
As part of SMBC Americas' strategy to build a commercially competitive, U.S. regulatory-compliant Commercial Investment Bank, SMBC Americas Division (AD) established an organizational transformation team (the “Strategy & Transformation” group) aligning all end-to-end efforts across the organization.

The Strategy & Transformation team (S&T) plays a critical role in driving the remediation and change agenda in the AD. S&T leads the Americas’ efforts towards achieving a Bank Holding Company Target Operating Model (BHC TOM). This entails collectively organizing our legal entities activities under centralized leadership, referred to as CxOs for our corporate functions and Vertical Heads for our business lines. This effort will help drive our Consolidated US Operations (CUSO), & AD Governance model, assess the maturity environment of AD entities and functions to ensure alignment to regulatory expectations & industry best practice, driving towards a more streamlined governance structure.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $179,000 and $199,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Responsibilities:
The Strategy Director will focus on transformational initiatives that will enable SMBC AD, CxOs and Vertical Heads to improve both efficiency and control through process optimization. They will work closely with leadership, cross-functional teams and working groups across the firm to facilitate execution of workforce projects and initiatives, providing project management, analytical support, and expertise in identifying and executing on opportunities for location strategy initiatives, including but not limited to creating project plans to execute successful offshoring of resources and/or processes.

In addition, the Strategy Director will identify opportunities for automation, increased transparency, and enhancement of underlying processes supporting functional target operating models. The Strategy Director will facilitate information flow through development and presentation of visual analysis of processes and data. The Strategy Director will lead or serve as a senior participant in working groups responsible for executing on specific workforce project initiatives and goals.

The Strategy Director will serve as a conduit with our corporate functions partners to ensure the timely communication and flow of information across the organization, coaches and supports the success of junior professionals across teams via informal reporting relationships.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in executing or project managing successful offshoring activities for a global investment bank.
  • Aptitude for creating process flows, KPIs, establishing trainings and identifying efficiency opportunities within an organization.
  • Significant knowledge of financial operations and planning, risk and controls, project management, MIS, data management and reporting processes related to commercial and investment banks. Ability to bridge business and technical requirements.
  • Strong project management experience driving change management initiatives across an organization.
  • Strong relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills; ability to partner and leverage inter-departmental resources to achieve goals.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and quality standards, with strong organization skills and propensity for detail and proven capability to dissect complex requirements into actionable programs
  • Ability to understand complex and highly technical concepts, with specific ability to easily explain/translate issues in simple business language to peers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications.
  • Self-starter, highly analytical and results-driven, with ability to prioritize work by setting and meeting realistic deadlines, forecasting, and communicating changes resulting from risks and issues.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and highly collaborative with project stakeholders.
