The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has a seasonal position (no benefits) available at the Springville Fish Hatchery in Springville, Utah. This appointment will last from approximately May 1 to Sept. 30, 2023. Housing is not provided.

Job duties
The incumbent in this position will help propagate a variety of sportfish species and maintain hatchery facility and equipment at the Springville Fish Hatchery. The incumbent is responsible for fish propagation, which includes feeding fish and cleaning raceways, ponds and other water management structures. The incumbent will also assist in spawning, egg picking, receiving and egg disinfection operations; as well as learning and assisting with necropsies of various sportfish groups, and will gather daily, weekly and monthly biological data. Additional duties include maintenance of buildings, grounds and trails; groundskeeping work; and performing other duties as assigned.

Job requirements and skills
The successful applicant will have education in biology or a background in a closely related field. Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time. Use wildlife-specific computer automation programs and perform repair and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Preference will be given to an individual seeking BS degree or has a BS degree.

Incumbent must be able to work in extreme and adverse weather conditions (heat, wind, snow, ice, rain, etc.) work long hours in hip or chest waders, work in cold water, on slippery surfaces and in cramped areas and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Some travel is required.
