We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for a Laundry Worker 1, Full-Time, Permanent position here at the beautiful Washington Veterans Home in Scenic Port Orchard, Washington!

Please Note: The anticipated schedule for this recruitment will be from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star families.

As a Laundry Worker 1, you'll be responsible for providing linen and personal laundry services for residents in our Washington Veteran and Washington Soldiers Homes. Duties

Some of what you'll be doing includes:

  • Operate washing machines, dryers, marking machines and presses.
  • Weigh, shake and sort out all soiled linen daily; mark all resident clothing with WDVA numbers.
  • Clean and disinfect laundry carts on a daily basis.
  • Dry, hang, fold and sort personal clothing for final distribution for designated areas.
  • Dry, fold and stack all linen for cart distribution.
  • Prepare daily linen carts for specified nursing units.
  • Provide special laundry needs for other departmental support areas.
  • Work with and help train new staff in operating laundry equipment and doing routine laundry tasks.
  • Oversee resident helpers, community service, and volunteer workers.
  • Clean and mop restrooms, break rooms and floors; empty waste baskets, refill all needed supplies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, directions and procedures.
  • Making simple math calculations.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, twist, lift and work overhead for long periods of time, lifting pushing and pulling is required of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must follow all safety policies, procedures and practices.

Other Information:
  • State employees must be fully vaccinated no later than hire date. Your vaccine status will be verified at New Employee Orientation.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Must be willing to undergo a two-step TB test at date of hire and annually thereafter.
  • This position is represented by the WA Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
