General Description
Essential Functions
- Supervises and coordinates the equivalent of two or more fulltime employees and all assigned work in a unit ensuring timely and quality activities to respond to the needs of the City, community, department, and unit.
- Lead the implementation of condition assessment programs; Plans, schedules and budgets program activities and follows up with monitoring and making necessary adjustments to bring programs to desired goals and ends.
- Provides leadership and guidance to section staff by assigning work, mentoring, providing feedback for performance review, and assisting in the hiring process
- Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of department policies, projects and procedures; Implements elements of Tucson Water’s planning efforts through the utility’s capital improvement program.
- Ensures the section operations conform to local, state, and federal governmental regulations and other applicable rules and requirements
- Oversees the planning, implementation, direction and management of all functions and resources of the section to achieve the strategic objectives of the department and the City in an efficient and effective manner.
- Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, making recommendations on employee discipline, and other human resources issues, evaluating and managing employee performance, discussing and identifying personnel issues and facilitating resolutions, promoting positive morale in the unit, ensuring staff is trained appropriately for maximum performance, and providing leadership and guidance.
- Communicates and reports to stakeholders regarding program progress and purposes.
- Prepares visual aids and informative programs to explain program activities, including the preparation and presentation of technical papers.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 5 years in coordinating and managing multi-disciplinary programs, of which 3 of the required 5 years has been in a lead or supervisor role in a related functional area.
“Lead” is defined as leading at least one (1) full-time FTE in a work unit. It does not include leading projects, departments, contractors, interns, etc.
“Supervisory” is defined as having supervised at least one (1) full time FTE.
Valid and unrestricted driver's license
An equivalent combination of education and relevant-level experience that provides the ability to successfully perform the essential functions may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or directly related field
- Current NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification
- Seven or more years of experience in corrosion or related field
- Experience with asset management
- Experience performing condition assessment of water infrastructure
Selection Plan
- In-person Oral Board interviews will be held April 20 and April 21, 2023
- 10% of your rating for education and work experience
- 90% of your rating for panel board interview
