Water Plant Operator Apprentice

Located along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, the City of Bridgman (population 2096) is a charming community in southwest Berrien County and an easy driving distance from Chicago, South Bend and Grand Rapids. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time entry level Water Operator Apprentice. The City of Bridgman is currently searching for a Water Plant Operator Apprentice. This is an entry level position under the supervision of the Water Operator in Charge and the general direction of the City Manager. The successful candidate will apprentice under current certified Water Operators with a goal of obtaining State of Michigan license S-4 Distribution and F-4 in Water Treatment certification.

Examples of duties will be with to learn distribution, pumping, storage, treatment, operations, and maintenance procedures which are part of the operation and maintenance of the municipal water system and filtration plant. You will learn to and assist in the inspecting, monitoring, and servicing of treatment/pumping facilities. Learn to identify and respond to or identified potential problems in pumping and/or filtration system. Respond to customer calls concerning the public water supply system.

Essential Qualifications:

· Proficient knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures

· Proficient knowledge of math and science

· Strong computer skills

· Basic knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical and electrical equipment

· Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair practices

· Basic skills in the operation of tools and equipment related to the water industry

· Basic skill in keeping records and communication in written form

· Basic mechanical ability

· Preferably basic knowledge of hydraulics and of the basic procedures and processes of water pumping, storage, treatment, and distribution

· Preferably basic experience in mechanical and electrical equipment operation and maintenance

· Completion of standard high school course work in math, biology, chemistry, or the related sciences

· High School diploma or equivalent

Benefits:

A full benefit package includes competitive wages DOQ, MERS defined benefit pension, health, dental, and vision insurance coverage, paid time off, holidays, voluntary deferred compensation (457), and disability insurance provided. Starting wage is $21/hr.
