Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates, including the Thompson House for rehabilitation and skilled nursing services, and the Home Care organizations.Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the VP of Research and Innovation has the authority and accountability for the operation of all clinical and translational research programs (excluding cancer center clinical trials), clinical simulation and simulation research, global health, continuing medical education, leadership development, and library services across the Network. Establishes, directs, and monitors all the external collaborations and institutional affiliations related to these programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensures appropriate financial and administrative structure exist to support all Network research initiatives and collaborations.
2. Provides leadership and oversight for the non-cancer clinical trials, clinical and health service research and translational research in the Network.
3. Supervises the directors of clinical trials, clinical and health service research and translational lab and ensures effective collaboration between these divisions.
4. Serves as primary liaison to manage the Network’s active or potential research affiliations and partnerships.
5. Works with IP and patent counsel to protect all proprietary research results and discoveries.
6. Identifies, evaluates and leads potential commercialization opportunities related to any of the institution’s research discoveries.
7. Provides oversight of all simulation-based education in patient safety, reduction of medical errors, and physician-patient communication and any other required simulation-based education needed by the network
8. Supervises the director and faculty of simulation center and standardized patient program and ensures effective collaboration between them and rest of network.
9. Identifies, evaluates and leads potential collaborative simulation research opportunities. Develops a grant funding program for the simulation center to ensure financial strength and expansion of the simulation learning and research for the Network.

11. Oversight of the Global Health program for the network and its international sites including participation of UVM students and faculty in the program.
12. Develops the Network’s active or potential global health affiliations and partnerships.
13. Leading and developing innovative projects including development of e-blended learning curricula, and telemedicine.
14. Develop a Center for Innovation to foster innovation as a disciplined experiment in the network.
15. Oversight of the existing CME and LD programs.
16. Creating the next generation of learning programs in simulation based, e-blended designs to enable the network to deliver learner-centered curricula utilizing the technology.
17. Oversight of the existing services as well as developing their role in the areas outlined above.
18. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.
Other information:
Required: Previous academic experience as Assistant or Associate faculty-level appointment/responsibilities. Organizational behavior, educational methodology, clinical knowledge in a primary care specialty, teaching, budgeting, and GME reimbursement experience.
