The Vice President, Principal Giving & Strategic Initiatives (VP of Principal Giving), will serve as a critical member of Sutter Health’s Philanthropy Leadership Team (PLT). Reporting directly to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), the VP of Principal Giving will partner with other philanthropy VPs and the PLT to develop philanthropic activities, expectations, and goals across the Sutter Health system, which are aligned with our strategic goals and priorities. Reporting to the VP of Principal Giving will be principal giving team and prospect research. The VP of Principal Giving will establish and implement a robust principal giving program and a comprehensive prospect research program that integrates seamlessly with the Sutter Health Philanthropy Team. The VP of Principal Giving is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing and evaluating all philanthropy activities to ensure all short and long-term objectives are fully achieved. The VP of Principal Giving will engage affiliate CEO’s, key physicians, and service line leaders to promote a culture of philanthropy in which all areas are fully equipped as ambassadors, embracing their roles as integral part of Sutter Health’s development efforts. The VP of Principal Giving will also manage a portfolio of high-level prospects to personally cultivate and solicit, in collaboration with CPO, PLT, and affiliate CEO’s.Job Description:
Education
- Bachelor's in Business Administration or related field required
- Master's in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
Experience
- Significant experience working in a non-profit organization with a successful track record in fundraising, strategy development, donor communications, and partnership building; preferably in a healthcare setting, as typically acquired during 7+ years in a similar position
- Demonstrated record of successfully raising major and transformational gifts from individuals and corporations (both personally and through a team) in a sophisticated organizational environment
- Proven experience in managing a large, dispersed fundraising staff and engaging and utilizing key volunteer relationships
- Demonstrated experience in delivering presentations to senior leaders conveying key information regarding philanthropic subject matters
- Seasoned experience setting personal and team benchmarks, regularly measuring success against goals, and being accountable for development outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in leading and working within an integrated philanthropy team.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and working in matrixed and complex organizations.
Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of the philanthropy process, including annual, major, capital and planned giving fundraising activities and best practices
- Proven understanding of the process and skills required in successfully identifying, qualifying, and developing relationships with high potential donor prospects
- Thorough knowledge of best practices in fiscal management and return on investment in philanthropic infrastructure
- In-depth knowledge of the current healthcare environment is preferred
- Working knowledge of marketing and public relations and their implications/relationship to philanthropy

Pay Range: $127.70 - $150.24 / hour
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
