JOB SUMMARY:. The training coordinator will ensure the smooth and effective functioning of training program by developing, planning, and conducting training programs for department trainers and employees. The training coordinator will support the training of Technicians and Assistants by evaluating and adjusting training to reflect the employee’s progress and advancement in providing outstanding nursing care and client relations

EDUCATIONAL/REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Veterinary Technician Certification
  • A minimum of three years of training experience

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous supervisory capacity or background in education
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with management, doctors, hospital staff, and clients.
  • Professional developmental skills: Able to seek continuing education to improve upon skill sets and learn additional skills, enabling greater contribution to the work team.
  • Strong sense of integrity and ability to uphold hospital standards and core values.
  • Problem solving and analytical thinking skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains proficiency of the appropriate department and level Veterinary Technician and Assistant competencies and is scheduled as an active Veterinary Technician.
  • Discuss and provide feedback to management, supervisors, doctors, and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training including but not limited to technical skills, nursing care, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates training schedule with the hiring and training demands of the hospital.
  • Facilitates staff training for all technicians and assistants.
  • Plans teaching outline and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, etc.
  • Selects, develops, and utilizes teaching aids such as training handbooks, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference works.
  • Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, refresher training, etc.
  • Tests trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Reports on progress of employees under guidance during training periods.
  • Assists employees with problems concerning "how to" perform specific tasks related to their positions.
  • Makes suggestions on improving work procedures.
  • Maintains trainee personnel records.
  • Develops strong relationships with doctors and employees to develop course materials and receive feedback.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Technician Supervisor or Hospital Administrator

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

· This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· This job operates in a professional hospital environment.

· This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers/scanners.

· This role routinely uses basic and advanced veterinary medical equipment such as laboratory equipment, radiology equipment, anesthesia equipment, and nursing care devices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds (work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals-with assistance from other staff members for animals weighing over 50 pounds)
  • Position requires prolonged standing, sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

· This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are varied depending upon training needs of the hospital.
