Job description
In anticipation of NASA awarding the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) contract in the near future, Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a Vacuum Facility Fluid Analyst to promote HLS and other programs as part of a diverse team that develops lunar landers, other cislunar spacecraft, and a wide range of critical technologies for civil, military, and commercial space programs.
The Vacuum Facility Fluid Analyst will boost the Dynetics Space Systems Division with development of HLS with primary responsibility for analyzing key subsystems of the main engine vacuum test facility, including steady state and time-dependent fluid flows. The project will involve steam generation systems, steam eductor systems, supersonic diffusers, and other diverse space technologies and systems. Candidates will work in a team environment to support conceptual design through product implementation and must be able to analyze fluids in multiple phase domains.
Basic Qualifications
- Candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institute.
- Candidates will have at least 8 years of work history with propulsion or other fluid system analysis.
- Candidates will have knowledge working with thermal, fluid, and mechanical system engineering and steady state/transient analysis of fluid flows.
- Candidates will have working knowledge of one or more commercial thermal/fluid/mechanical system design and analysis tools such as Ansys Fluent or STAR-CCM+, as well as NASA software tools such as Generalized Fluid System Simulation Program (GFSSP) or Loci/CHEM.
- Candidates will be able to write clear, concise, and comprehensive technical reports and present results to multi-disciplinary teams and customers.
- Candidates will have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Candidates will have experience communicating within an energetic team environment.
Candidates must be residents of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
Other Qualifications
Preferred candidates may possess a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institute. Preferred candidates may have work history and/or knowledge of the following:
- NASA, DoD, or commercial space system development projects
- Integration of environmental, mechanical, and/or electrical hardware systems for NASA, DoD, or commercial programs
- Rocket propulsion systems and specifically liquid rocket engines
- Cryogenic and hydrocarbon propellant systems
- Steam eductor systems
- NASA engineering design and analysis practices and processes
- Performing as an individual contributor within a short schedule
