Our Unit Helpers support the mission of McHarrie life by:
Providing support to the nursing staff and residents as requested, which could include:
o Call lights and unit phones as directed.
o Pass fresh water pitchers to residents.
o Turn down/make beds as needed.
o Pass trays to those residents that do not need feeding assistance.
o Transport residents to/from activities and supper.
o Pass snacks to those residents that do not need feeding assistance.
o Pick up meal trays.
o Tidy clean/dirty utility rooms, nourishment station and nurse’s station.
o Document consumption as necessary.
o 1:1 companionship with residents as directed by the supervisor
Unit Helpers DO NOT provide direct contact care with the residents.
Required qualities for successful Unit Helpers:
- Must be 16 years of age and have a desire/interest in working with the elderly.
- Must be able to function independently.
- Good interpersonal and effective communication skills to relate with residents, family members, staff, and supervisors.
- Flexible and receptive to change.
