ABOUT THE FACILITY
The Chickasaw Nation Department of Health (CNDH) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of Chickasaws and other First Americans by providing programs and services that promote overall health and wellness.
The first health care program operated by the tribe began in 1969, with a staff of six community health representatives (CHR). In 1980, the Carl Albert Service Center was built in Ada by Indian Health Service (IHS) to provide health care to First Americans.
Through the late 1980s, the Chickasaw Nation, including health services, was largely funded by the federal government. The tribe developed an economic plan to raise funding in order to provide the amount and quality of services tailored to the needs of citizens.
Years of determination and successful economic initiatives have given the Chickasaw Nation the ability to provide accessible resources that now include: medical care, dentistry, nutrition, mental health, physical activity and wellness, substance abuse prevention, pharmacy and family services.
In 1994, the Chickasaw Nation became the first tribe to compact with the U.S. Indian Health Service to assume administrative and operational control of its own health care system. Building on this milestone, the Chickasaw Nation has continued to improve quality of care and expand services, including the development of the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center campus and multiple clinics, a pharmacy refill center, mental health care resources, as well as nutrition and family wellness centers.
As technology develops, the Chickasaw Nation is able to create unique services like the virtual medical visit program and AYA, a step tracking mobile app that unlocks historical Chickasaw narratives as you walk.
Tribal leaders continue to take a proactive approach to serving citizens through visionary practices, joint ventures with state and federal partners, and a commitment to continuous expansion of resources designed to meet the overall health and wellness needs of Chickasaw citizens, First Americans and the community.
