Job Title: TMS Manager
Job Summary: As a TMS (Transportation Management System) Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of our company's Transportation Management System. Your role will involve ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the TMS platform to support the smooth movement of goods and materials throughout our supply chain. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and carriers to enhance transportation processes, streamline operations, and drive cost savings. The TMS Manager will also be responsible for analyzing transportation data, generating reports, and making data-driven recommendations to enhance performance and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
TMS Implementation: Lead the implementation of the Transportation Management System, including requirements gathering, system configuration, testing, and training of end-users.
TMS Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve the TMS functionality, workflows, and processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall performance.
System Administration: Serve as the primary point of contact for TMS-related issues, user support, and system maintenance. Collaborate with IT and external vendors to resolve technical problems and ensure system availability.
Vendor and Carrier Management: Establish and maintain relationships with transportation service providers, negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and address any issues or discrepancies.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret transportation data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. Prepare regular reports and dashboards to communicate key performance indicators and make data-driven recommendations.
Process Improvement: Identify areas for process optimization within the transportation function and lead initiatives to implement best practices, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, including safety standards, customs requirements, and industry regulations. Mitigate risks associated with transportation operations and implement appropriate controls.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as operations, logistics, procurement, and customer service teams, to align transportation strategies with overall business objectives.
Training and Education: Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for end-users to ensure effective utilization of the TMS system and adherence to established processes.
Stay Abreast of Industry Trends: Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices related to transportation management systems. Make recommendations for system enhancements or upgrades.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Proven experience (X years) in transportation management, logistics, or supply chain operations, with specific expertise in managing and optimizing TMS platforms.
- Strong knowledge of transportation operations, carrier management, and supply chain processes.
- Proficiency in working with TMS software and related tools; experience with specific TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle Transportation Management, JDA/Blue Yonder, MercuryGate, SAP TM) is highly desirable.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, interpret, and leverage data for decision-making and process improvement.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external vendors, and carriers.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with emerging transportation technologies, such as IoT, telematics, and predictive analytics, is a plus.
