JOB DESCRIPTION


Title:
Title I/Title IIA Instructional Coach (reading and mathematics)


Reports to:
K-6 Curriculum Supervisor


Job Objective:
Provides teaching-learning leadership and staff support for the continuous improvement of student performance in mathematics, reading, writing, communication and content area achievement.


Minimum
· Holds and maintains required state department of education credentials.

Qualifications: · Ability to evaluate instructional practices, use student assessment data to guide instruction and implement continuous/measurable school improvements.

  • Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Embodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training may be required for some assignments.


Essential
1. Provides leadership for the collaborative implementation of literacy and/or

Functions math programs. Facilitates the development of instructional improvement.

Acts as a focused catalyst to help teachers utilize best practices in lesson

design and classroom delivery.


  • Fosters an ethos of mutual respect, teamwork and accountability at all system levels. Maintains strong communication links between administrators, staff, students, families and the community.
  • Monitors state standards/guidelines, school improvement priorities and research-based strategies (e.g., curriculum alignment, effective school management, data-driven continuous improvement plans, evidence-based teaching/learning practices, positive school environments, etc.).
  • Helps develop a unified curricular vision for the literacy and mathematics program. Helps staff understand program format, components and instructional delivery methods/strategies through the use of effective professional development practices and student centered coaching.
  • Works with staff to develop high quality standards-based curriculum guides/courses of study.
  • Provides high quality professional development programs that increase staff competencies and confidence. Models teaching techniques/best practices. Uses a variety of strategies to help teachers improve pupil management, organizational and instructional skills (e.g., coaching, communities of practice, consultation, lesson study, mentoring, etc.).
  • Uses longitudinal analysis of test results to identify emerging student needs, relationships between interventions, achievements and time forecasts for students to master expected skills.
  • Helps staff use timely tangible student data to make informed decisions that support continuous improvement and gauge progress toward achievement benchmarks.
  • Helps staff identify specific teaching techniques, interventions and aligned resources best suited for each student. Identifies performance gaps/trends. Helps prioritize core performance objectives.
  • Helps students make appropriate choices and grow academically. Promotes creativity, critical-thinking, cultural awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical conduct and self-reliance skills.
  • Maintains literacy and mathematics resource materials that support learning activities.
  • Develops and maintains a student centered coaching schedule that encompasses mathematics and reading support.

  • Manages student behavior using positive behavioral support techniques.
