The Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy provide professional training toward a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) degrees. With an interdisciplinary curriculum, our students have access to faculty members within the Brooks School and across Cornell University, which is among the largest and most diverse of the Ivy League universities. Our graduates pursue successful careers across a wide range of spaces, including education, healthcare, criminal justice, sustainability, and economic policy. The Brooks School MPA Programs has an immediate opportunity for an administrative assistant to provide administrative and program support. This individual will provide administrative support to the MPA Director, Executive Director, Associate Director of Engaged Learning, and faculty members. This person performs duties of a sensitive and confidential nature that require discretion, independent judgement, and decision-making skills. This individual will manage calendars; plan and schedule meetings; track and reconcile account balances, process travel arrangements, and interact regularly with both internal and external stakeholders, including students and faculty at Cornell and in other institutions. Will assist with department events and activities.
This is a 6 month temporary position.
Requirements:
Associate degree plus minimum 2 years’ experience in office setting, or equivalent combination of experience and education. Demonstrated strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and handle ongoing activities while using sound judgment and paying close attention to details. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, adapt to and make recommendations for change/improvements. Strong computer skills particularly with Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to work under pressure and to prioritize workload. Demonstrated positive work ethic and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment while managing frequent interruptions. Must exhibit good judgment and handle confidential material with discretion and professionalism.
