The Summer Camp Counselor works under the supervision of the Summer Camp Director and is responsible for the overall supervision of camp participants, providing them with a healthy, safe, and enjoyable camp environment and experience. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with and empowering young people. They also should be patient, fun-loving, and confident in their ability to motivate and assist campers.

Location:
Dwight Merkel Sports Complex, 5701 N. Assembly S. Comstock Park, 600 W. 29th Ave.

Schedule:
6/20 - 8/11 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Training:
6/12 - 6/16 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The Summer Camp Counselor duties include:

• Supervising participants ages 7-11
• Facilitating and participating in group activities
• Overseeing transitions to and from scheduled events and lessons
• Assist with set-up & clean-up each day of camp
• Managing behavior and interpersonal conflicts
• Communication with parents
• Help coordinate field trips and transportation plans
• Maintaining an inventory of equipment and supplies Record keeping

• Must be 16 years of age or older
• Attending or a graduate of High School/ GED or college
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
• Must be able to work up to 8 hours/ day outdoors in summer weather
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening

• Leadership experience
• Youth development, recreation management
• Previous experience working at summer day camps
• CPR certification preferred
• Excellent communication skills

Temp seasonal employees receive paid sick leave in accordance with state sick leave legislation.
