Job Summary:

The Tractor and Trailer Technician will be responsible for preventive maintenance and corrective repairs without supervision with a high degree of attention to detail.

Essential Functions:

• Safely perform maintenance in accordance to required departmental processes, procedures, and documentation;
• Safely complete necessary preventive maintenance or repairs in an acceptable period to meet equipment schedule needs without supervision;
• Safely use any required shop or testing equipment to perform assigned job;
• Safely perform general repairs with some supervision and perform preventive maintenance without supervision;
• Safely troubleshoot and repair electrical, air, cooling and ABS systems;
• Safely operate applicable vehicle alignment equipment;
• Properly diagnose electrical, suspension, ABS issues, air leaks, and other mechanical failures and make necessary repairs;
• Safely repair lighting or electrical system issues;
• Safely perform wheel-end inspection and maintenance;
• Safely perform brake shoe replacements;
• Safely perform general repairs, including, but not limited, to trailer roof and/or body, door repairs/replacement, and scuff rails;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & KEY COMPETENCIES:

• Understand how to safely use jacks and stands;
• Understand how to use a torque wrench;
• Understand how to use a dial indicator;
• Understand how to check and adjust trailer alignment;
• Understand how to measure brake stroke;
• Understand how to identify irregular tire wear;
• Understand how to safely use power and air tools, grinders, torch, air chisel, etc.;
• Understand how to use an air and hand rivet gun;
• Understand how to test pop off valves on pneumatic, and chemical tanks;
• Understand how to use multi meter;
• Must have confined space training;
• Should be able to weld with a mig, tig and stick welder.

Education/Certification Required:

• 2-3 years minimum tractor- trailer technician experience;
• Able to read and interpret instructions;
• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively;
• Understand basic math;
• Air System certification;
• Brake certification.

Tool Requirements:

• Full set of hand tools both standard and metric as well as air tools;
• Complete roll around toolbox - top and bottom sets;
• Torque wrench;
• Multi meter.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds over their head. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The duties of this job are performed in both an office environment and a light industrial environment, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office equipment and industrial equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.24 - $22.33 per hour

• Weekend availability

• Mechanicsburg, PA 17050: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

• Diesel engine repair: 1 year (Preferred)
• Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred)
