What is the role and where can you add value?

The Systems Engineer III is responsible for managing, implementing, designing, recommending, administering, and monitoring the Windows computer infrastructure to support business objectives and provide maximum uptime for users. The Systems Engineer will also provide advanced support for local, remote, and cloud computer systems.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, configures, and implements Windows infrastructure components like Azure, DNS, Active Directory, VMware, compute, storage, network, and associated services/devices.
  • Provides Windows infrastructure system support (alongside other available IT staff) for employees and business unit contacts for on-premises Denver VMware virtual machines and Azure/Microsoft cloud services.
  • Primarily responsible for Azure PaaS administration, storage provisioning, Windows and Linux server management, Azure IaaS provisioning, Exchange On-premise/Online email, VMware new VM builds, Intune MDM, Horizon View VDI, application deployments, f5 VPN+load balancer administration, project work, and ensuring smooth and reliable systems operation to fulfill business objectives and processes.
  • Configures, maintains, and monitors Microsoft Azure/Office365, IIS web services, SQL Server, cloud SaaS applications, VMware, server hardware, storage, network, backups, and security products for efficient and effective operation.
  • Leads or takes responsibility for special projects and day to day operations for infrastructure software and hardware systems.
  • Effectively assesses risk and recommends controlled change implementation processes with testing that minimizes business impact. Researches and maps out impacts and dependencies of all major and minor changes.
  • Designs and implements technical solutions to meet business goals and improve IT systems and processes.
  • Manages advanced functions of network services such as DNS, VPN, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Performs complex, independent troubleshooting to isolate, diagnose, and resolve software and hardware problems with minimal guidance.
  • Routinely upgrades system hardware and software components as required.
  • Implements technical security fixes to improve security standards and maintain PCI DSS compliance.
  • Performs or supervises installs, upgrades to the infrastructure software and hardware stack.
  • Provides mid-tier support to IT members and company users.
  • Proactively finds/suggests/remediates areas where infrastructure software and hardware configurations can be improved.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft products such as Azure, Office 365, Intune, Teams, Sharepoint, Exchange on-premise/Online, Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server, DNS, DHCP, MFA, ADFS, AD Connect, Certificate Services.
  • Must understand fundamental Windows infrastructure design concepts and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of networking services such as firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, routers, and IP addressing.
  • Must be familiar with common best practices for security, change management, resource utilization, backups, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Proven history of delivering completed infrastructure projects that add business value.
  • Skilled at finding root causes of infrastructure issues, resourceful at recommending fixes, and successful implementing long term solutions.
  • Able to occasionally travel within the Denver metropolitan area to perform maintenance on physical datacenter hardware, servers, storage, and networks at our datacenter co-location and office headquarters.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends when necessary to carry out maintenance and support activities outside normal business hours.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and at least five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience and success with Windows operating systems, Windows server and desktop infrastructure, provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, and tuning.
  • History implementing automation, security principles, and systems management best practices is required.
  • Experience with Azure, hybrid cloud, Office 365, Active Directory, VMware VSphere and Horizon View VDI, application deployment, Pure Storage arrays, network switches, Cisco UCS servers, databases, web servers, Veeam Backup, or similar products.
  • Experience working with automation or scripting tools such as Powershell, Azure CLI, JSON, DevOps, infrastructure as code projects/templates is desired.
  • Any training such as Microsoft certifications or other Azure training is a plus.
  • Knowledge about cloud-based computing platforms like Azure/AWS/GCP is a plus.
  • Administration or troubleshooting experience with Linux operating systems or f5 products is a plus.
  • Experience with QoS, SD-WAN, VoIP, software phones, network troubleshooting, and Cisco/Meraki networks is a plus.
