Duties:

To conduct business requirements reviews, technical systems specifications and systems process analysis. To develop detailed selection evaluation criteria. To analyze and re-engineer business processes using industry standard tools and methods with understanding of the technical and business environments. To partner with business process experts to learn and understand problems with software. To develop innovative IT solutions for risky and demanding business situations.

The Server System Analyst's role is to ensure the stability, performance and integrity of all Health System Linux server systems. This includes hosts, virtual machines and physical servers, as well as authentication and authorization systems, data and server backup systems and system services. In addition, the System Analyst will diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software server problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide team and end user training where required. The System Analyst works with System Architects, Project Managers and clinical or application subject matter experts to design and implement servers and systems to support highly available business and clinical applications. The System Analyst configures new implementations and develops processes and procedures for ongoing management and monitoring of enterprise server and storage environments. Handles client access issues and assists in overseeing the physical integrity and safety of the server and storage stacks/farms.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems both manually and using automated methods
  • Enhance reliability of systems through monitoring and alerting of potential and actual problems
  • Install new software releases and system upgrades, evaluate, and install patches
  • Analyze and resolve problems associated with the operating system's servers, hardware, applications, and software.
  • Monitor systems performance, provide server performance statistics, and make recommendations for maintaining appropriate levels of system and application response
  • Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity
  • Perform system backups and recovery and create and maintain a disaster recovery plan
  • Provide technical support and guidance to users
  • Participate in on call rotation
  • Assist co-workers to assess near- and long-term server capacity needs
  • Rely on experience and judgment as well as instructions and pre-established guidelines to plan and accomplish goals and perform wide variety of tasks
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to server configuration, server relationships, and service records.
  • Maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for server administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
  • Work closely with teams including Storage Team, Directory Services team, Virtualization Team to streamline deployment and maintenance of servers
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, automated alerts, notifications, and/or e-mails/ticketing system regarding server problems.
  • Utilize trouble ticketing and tracking system to coordinate work and document work tasks.
  • Practice server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  • Participate in maintaining all server security solutions, and ensure compliance with corporate security standards
  • Respond to emergency server outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Conduct research on server products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the server industry.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Configure servers to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Ensure server authentication with directory services.
  • Works with third party vendors to coordinate hardware repairs and upgrades

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Information Systems or a related field and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of servers, networks, authentication, directory services
  • Five (5) or more years experience working with Red Hat Enterprise and/or Oracle Enterprise Linux
  • An understanding of server capacity planning, server security principles, and general server management best practices
  • Working technical knowledge of current server hardware, software, protocols and networking concepts
  • Ability to operate server process monitors, interpret output from process monitors, utilize network capture utilities for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability in high stress environment with limited information is required
  • Knowledge of managing rights to resources including local files and network file server shares and files
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and install equipment into server equipment racks
  • Available for afterhours on call support
