Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Medicine Information Technology (IT) Office provides centralized computer support and information system support for the School of Medicine community, from medical students to faculty to administrative staff. Services include central help desk and desktop support; administrative and clinical application support; novel application development and database hosting; research IT and data science initiatives; infrastructure services including physical, virtual, and cloud provisioning; physical networking installation and management; and web development. Additional services include managing the School of Medicine official web presence; classroom video recording and streaming systems; video production and editing; video conferencing; and digital signage.

Position Summary
The Student Systems Technician will work with a dedicated technical team supporting the educational mission of UNC School of Medicine (SOM). The primary function of the Student Systems Support team is to deliver technical support services for student information & administration systems for SOM educational programs. The Student Systems Technician will support a wide range of Student Systems applications. In-scope systems include but are not limited to our curriculum management, evaluation, and clinical scheduling system, our admissions CRM platform , and our Student Success and advising application. We are looking for a bright, talented individual who values teamwork and collaboration in support of our mission to become the nation’s leading public school of medicine. While experience with these tools or similar tools is preferred, in depth training on these specific applications will be provided.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and one year in the field of technology related to the position’s role.
- Computer coursework may be substituted year-for- year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journey level requires an additional six months experience
  • Advanced level requires an additional one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Direct experience supporting administrative student software systems
Experience with technical environments in support of Higher Education, or Health Sciences
Survey design and administration
Basic programming/database knowledge
Experience integrating systems and data using API and ETL technologies
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI
Experience with the following systems:
  • SLATE
  • Navigate
  • One45
Project Management experience
Experience with Project and Work Management tools
Experience with IT Service Management systems
Basic knowledge of statistics, data, and reporting
Consultancy skills
Presentation skills
1 to 2 years of relevant software experience
