The Structural Engineer in the Structural Mechanics group of the Design Services organization implements solutions to engineering challenges to meet standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) project. The Structural Engineer is responsible for advanced structural analyses of various structures to validate its design adequacy for normal operation and accident loading conditions. The Structural Engineer in the Structural Mechanics group of the Design Services organization implements solutions to engineering challenges to meet standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) project. The Structural Engineer is responsible for advanced structural analyses of various structures to validate its design adequacy for normal operation and accident loading conditions. Advanced structural analyses include:
- Evaluation of structural responses for tornado winds, missile penetration, precipitation (rain, flood, snow), seismic activity and explosions (blast/detonation and deflagration)
- Dynamic seismic analysis (response spectra and time-history)
- Seismic Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI)
Minimum Qualifications
- BS Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering (with concentration in Structures), or applicable science or related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university with professional engineering experience
Must be able to perform walkdowns in the field
Any candidate(s) selected to receive an offer will be offered the position level commensurate with their experience and qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of advanced engineering principles and practices to develop appropriate outputs
- Working knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards, design control, and Department of Energy requirements
- Working knowledge of GTSTRUDL, STAAD, ANSYS, ABAQUS, or similar computer codes
- Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards including IBC, AISC (ASD, LRFD, & N690), ASCE, and ACI (318 & 349)
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing environment of multiple demands and shifting directions and priorities
- Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRMC is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor.
