Strategic Operations and Communications Manager

The Office of School Board Member Luisa Santos is seeking an experienced leader to manage office operations, communications, and support policy. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual with sharp operations chops, impeccable follow-through, strong communication, relationship building and interpersonal skills, who possesses the ability to lead and manage teams of students and volunteers.

Responsibilities

Office Operations

  • Lead our office’s relationship with school sites
  • Plan and coordinate Luisa’s school visits and follow-up with Principals and the South Region Office
  • Collect and analyze data to identify areas for improvement at schools
  • Brief Luisa before each site visit
  • Focus on looking for policy in action at our schools, following through on passed policy items, and ensuring implementation at school sites
  • Record notes during school visit and maintain office databases
  • Deliver solutions to observed challenges in partnership with District staff, school staff, and community partners
  • Foster connections with teachers and other staff to ensure a high level of engagement on school visits
  • Maintain office digital storage systems such as Google Drive and OneDrive, ensuring all information is easily accessible and organized.
  • Plan and organize special events such as A Night in D9, Coffee & Conversations, and other community outreach initiatives.

Communications

  • Manage the Communications team of 5-10 high school / college fellows to keep stakeholder and community members informed and engaged with the District 9 office through the upkeep of our office newsletter, website, socials, alumni newsletter, congratulatory letters, recommendation letters, etc.

Policy Support

  • Build digital notebooks for each School Board Meeting ensuring to upload the most up to date agenda items and relevant materials.
  • Track legislative changes at the local, state, and federal level and provide weekly updates to the District 9 office.
  • Contribute to office follow-up on policy items passed to ensure timely and successful implementation.
  • Coordinate one Saturday Committee Briefing a month with members of the District 9 team, fellows, and interns to ensure the office is briefed on upcoming items and track data as needed.
  • Research, draft, and submit policy items aligned to office priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in education, policy, communications or relevant field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience in education or communications, with at least 1 year of management experience
  • Exceptional relationship management skills, written and oral communication abilities, and the ability to manage and flexibly support a team of highly capable professionals
  • Creative, collaborative, and strategic thinking to guide a team to deliver high-quality results on multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Understanding of and successful experience in the communities of District 9 and Miami-Dade County
  • Demonstrated commitment to student achievement and educational equity
  • Experience working in fast-paced environment with strong multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Zoom
  • Optional experiences: Website development (Wix, Wordpress, etc), Airtable, project-management software, Zapier, Calendly, Mailchimp, Slack

Start Date: June 1, 2023, or as close to then as possible

Location: Offices in Homestead and Downtown Miami; events and meetings throughout Miami-Dade County; some remote work

Type of position: Full-Time, Year-Round; Reports to Board Member’s Chief of Staff

Salary: $68,000-$85,000
