Position Summary:
The Senior Clinical Lab Manager manages the human and material resources to deliver the laboratory outcomes that represent the philosophy of quality and excellence at Pathology Services. Serves in role as Laboratory Safety Officer and as such ensures compliance with AHCA and other regulatory guidelines for safety in the lab, including fire safety. Responsible for the broad scope of multidisciplinary laboratory activities with significant importance in the overall operation of laboratory Pathology Services. Specifically, this manager represents department either in terms of scope of services within the Jackson Health System and/or financial responsibility. This will have a significant role in the administration or preparation of the departments or the organization's budget.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Reviews and updates work area procedure manuals on an annual basis. Assures completion and presentation of employee performance evaluations on or before due dates. Offers innovative approaches in striving to improve the performance and environment of the work area. Maintains communication with supervisors and subordinates on a scheduled as well as non-scheduled basis. Assures equipment upkeep as well as proper inventory of supplies. Conducts staff meetings regularly for the purpose of information dissemination, problem solving, coordination of activities, and feedback. Assesses laboratory adherence to established turn around times, and reporting times on a monthly basis and as specific problems arise, and takes corrective action where needed. Reviews Quality Control for work performed, documents problems as well as corrective action. Performs duties in all areas of responsibility. Recommends and assists in the implementation of new equipment and test methodologies for the department. Acts on recommendations for improvement. Monitors ongoing service indicators to identify and correct poor performance and service. Provides initial departmental orientation and job training to confirm staff members' abilities to fulfill job expectations. Motivates staff and fosters an atmosphere of teamwork. Reviews and edits employee payroll promptly and accurately. Knows current requirements and standards of all licensing and accreditation agencies and incorporates these into the laboratory operating structure. Prepares and submits applications, surveys, reports, records, forms and renewal questionnaires which precede inspections as necessary for maintenance and renewal of licensure and/or accreditation. Maintains complete files on all correspondence. Prepares for and assists agency inspector in conducting all on site inspections. Qualifications





Experience:
Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience. Management experience is required.



Education:
Bachelor's degree in related field is required

License Certification:
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.



Knowledge Skill Abilities:
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.

Physical Demands:
Job function requires frequent sitting, standing or walking for extended period of time. Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Work Environment:
Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
