Special Education Teacher - Middle School Emotional/Behavioral Health Program
Job description
This Sp.Ed. Teacher position is within the APS Student Support Program (SSP) at Doherty Middle School. SSP is an inclusion-based program for students with Sp.Ed. for a primary Emotional Impairment who struggle with externalizing behavior resulting from emotional needs. The SSP teacher is partnered with a BCBA and highly supported by the school psychologist, social work staff, and nursing. Program oversight is provided by the district’s Clinical Director in partnership with building administration
The goal of this program is to provide students with multidisciplinary emotional, behavioral, social, and academic support through case management, care coordination, behavioral support, academic support, and curricula for skills-building.
Desirable candidates:
Have experience working at the middle school level with students who have behavioral health challenges.- Have an understanding of collaborative problem-solving strategies/solutions.
- Are comfortable supporting students in the inclusion classroom as well as running and coordinating small group academic support classes.
- Are able to maintain an even and professional disposition when students are distressed.
- Are willing to be on the building’s SafetyCare response team (de-escalation team).
- Case management for SSP students.
- Data collection regarding academic performance and behavioral health needs (i.e. academic progress, progress with skills acquisition, time participating in inclusion activities).
- Academic support for SSP students in small group support blocks.
- Push-in support for SSP students in their general education classes.
- Support students’ teachers implementing accommodations and making curriculum modifications.
- Writing IEP goals/contributing to IEP development.
- Academic coordination with students’ general teachers and coordination with clinical facilities where students may be admitted (i.e. tutoring entities on clinical units)
- Collecting data on student progress.
- Supervising/managing paraprofessional support in the SSP program.
- Master’s Degree in Special Education
- MA DESE Certification Required- Moderate Special Education Teacher 5-12
