Position Description:
The Social Media and Content Specialist will be required to perform Administrative Support for the United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida. This Specialist is responsible for directly and independently supporting the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) in coordinating the media relations program for our customer, the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).
Required Qualifications:
- A qualified typist is required (40 words per minute).
- Skill in operating a computer terminal, personal computer, electronic typewriter, and switchboard.
- Familiarity with office machines sufficient to perform recurring operations as well as user-selected custom features, e.g., copy enlargement and reduction.
- Ability to review and analyze data and information from multiple sources.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College Education in Social Media, Communications or Digital Marketing preferred; a degree is not required.
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Experience with video conferencing software such as WebEx or Zoom.
- Graphic, video and audio editing experience using programs such as Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, or Adobe Premiere.
- Experience using a modern DSLR camera with knowledge of lighting, color balancing, composition, use of external mixing and capturing equipment such as boom or lavalier microphone.

- Work closely with and under the direction of the PAO.
- Assist the PAO to develop, implement and manage the office's social media strategy. Provide multimedia content support on social media website(s) and platforms.
- Develop and maintain the office's internal and external websites, as well as social media sites, ensuring compliance with Department of Justice (DOJ) standards and privacy rules. Responsible for routine review, testing and updating of the office's websites (intranet and internet).
- Ensure that websites continually maintain current content (i.e., updated office personnel and sections), are formatted correctly, are visually appealing, utilize the optimum display of graphics, and contain functioning links to internal and external sites. Knowledge of HTML and CSS styles is a plus.
- Manage and oversee the office's social media content. Develop media messaging and increase social media presence (i.e., Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other potential social media platforms).
- Draft social media, internet and intranet messaging for the office. Proofread work. Use effective and impactful writing, editing and captioning to post (along with visuals) on websites and on social media platforms, considering the office's purpose (DOJ's mission) and objectives.
- Maintain social media and events calendar with PAO. Highlight monthly initiatives and programming on social media.
- Attend events with members of USAO staff, take photographs, video and document events/programs on social media and office's internal webpage.
- Capture video, photographs, and audio using a modern DSLR camera; with knowledge of lighting, color balancing, composition, use of external mixing and capturing equipment, e.g., boom or lavalier microphone.
- Broadcast live video/audio feed through online presentation video conferencing software, e.g. CISCO WebEx or Zoom.
- Create and edit graphics, videos, photography, and audio utilizing appropriate graphic design, video and photo-editing programs, e.g. Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, or Adobe Premiere.
- Use social media platforms to disseminate photographs, publications, news releases and other materials in support of the office and DOJ mission.
- Utilize social media marketing tools (this may include tools like Hootsuite and others).
- Monitor office's social media presence. Analyze and report on social media trends and the impact of messaging to determine how to maximize online reach. Develop a set of best practices for the most effective use of social media.
- Stay up to date on and implement the latest DOJ and Executive Office of U.S. Attorney approved social media practices and visuals.
- Assist with the production and publication of public service announcements.
- As appropriate, attend training programs.
- Work with PAO to implement social media guidance from the DOJ and the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA).
- Research, read, and become familiar with DOJ policies and regulations regarding media relations and privacy rights. Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations before any information and/or materials are shared with the public/press.
- Adhere to rules and regulations.
- As necessary, assist PAO and media team to draft, disseminate, post press releases, office newsletters and other materials; gather coverage of cases and matters of interest to the office through the use of a news clipping service and/or internet/social media searches; assist in the execution and coverage of public affairs events (i.e., press conferences); and respond to press and public inquiries.
- On occasion, travel to locations within the district to support the PAO. The position will periodically require flexible hours to accommodate evening and weekend events, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
- Assist the PAO in maintaining filing systems for the USAO's media relations programs. Carefully proofread all printed materials before they are publicly disseminated.
- Type, proofread, edit, and correct written documents, media and press releases, charts, pictures, reports, tables, graphs, etc., utilizing Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, publisher, internet, and software functions, as required.
- Perform quality control over own work.
- Perform other tasks, as assigned, to support the Media Relations Team.
Work Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional travel as required.
