Novation Tek, Inc. is seeking (2) two hybrid Server Administrators candidate to fill two opening on a (12) Month contract

3 days per week on Site required in Los Angeles

12-month assignment expected to start in June.
Hybrid work schedule, 3 days a week in the office in downtown Los Angeles.

The client has a diverse set of servers located both on premise and in the cloud.

These servers host most of the applications in use by the client, ranging from cashiering to permitting and inspection. There is a need for additional hardware support of these systems.

You will assist with the support of the Oracle Webcenter system used to host on premises in LA. Additionally, support for the VMWare ESX servers hosting a wide array of mostly web-based applications is needed. Lastly, the storage and backup systems also require maintenance and support.

The support functions for these systems include troubleshooting errors, maintaining versions, updating firmware, and resolving hardware failures.

With Oracle Webcenter (WC), the candidate will work closely with a third party vendor to deploy new software packages. The candidate will be expected to have a knowledge of Linux to support WC.

The VMWare ESX environment is running versions 6.5 and 7.0. Regular security and other packages shall be applied by the candidate. In the event that an application running on the VMWare environment is experiencing degraded performance or failures, the candidate will work with programmers to troubleshoot the issue. The candidate will be expected to log in to impacted systems, review log files, and recommend solutions.

The virtual machines running on the VMWare ESX servers will be monitored by the candidate. Log files should be regularly monitored. The virtual machines that are running on the VMWare ESX servers are primarily running Windows operating systems. Hardware issues between the hosts and the storage will need to be diagnosed and addressed by the candidate.

The client has IBM hosts on premise running AIX. As such, the candidate will be expected to possess qualifying experience working in an AIX environment. The system requires general administration, monitoring of log files and batch jobs, and occasional restarts of processes and services. There is a WebSphere server running on the AIX platform.

There is a combination of IBM and HPE storage being utilized. An IBM V7000 Unified system is designed as the primary storage system. There are HPE 3PAR and IBM Flash 840 being used in conjunction with the IBM V7000. Support of these systems commonly involves investigating hardware failures and network connectivity issues. The candidate shall be responsible for supporting these devices.

The client is in the process of moving virtual machines to the AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud platforms. The candidate will work with the Department’s programming and support teams to transition workflows to the cloud. The candidate will be responsible for the general server support and maintenance of the virtual machines in the cloud environments. As the client is also retiring some HPE hardware, the candidate will also assist in migrating existing servers to the new HPE platform.
The client is using the AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud platforms for long- and short-term data storage. The candidate will be responsible for configuration and maintenance of these storage environments.
Contractor shall meet the following key high-level work products and outcomes:

Support Oracle Webcenter, VMWare ESX, AIX, Backup tool and Storage devices located in the datacenter.

Support AWS and Azure virtual machines

Troubleshoot errors including application failures and performance issues on the equipment in the datacenter and cloud.

Monitor log files to preemptively address problems.

Apply patches and firmware updates as appropriate to the virtual machines, servers, and storage devices in the data center.

Reconfigure equipment to improve performance and reliability, as needed.

Provide regular or periodic status reports to provide updates on project progress, in addition to identifying project issues, track resolutions, and plan action items for the following reporting period.

Assist with writing technical documents, including project requirements, system requirements, project standards, and other related documents.

Assist in ensuring that IT Security standards are met, implemented, and enforced to maintain the integrity of the systems’ entire infrastructure and data.

Develop, schedule, and oversee the generation and delivery of user training, user materials, and full project documentation.

The qualified candidate must possess the following skills and experience:

• 5+ years of experience in Information Technology
• 3+ years of experience in the administration and maintenance of Oracle Webcenter preferred
• 3+ years of experience in VMWare
• 3+ years of experience in Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems
• 3+ years in hardware support of server equipment.
• 3+ years in working with AIX preferred
• 2+ years in working with AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud environment
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills when interacting with all levels of management, customers, project team and staff.
• High proficiency in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the project team
• Ability to work independently and with teams
• Ability to work respectfully in a culturally diverse work environment
