We are looking to add a full time Sergeant to our Security team, day to day you will act as a lead to our security officers and provide close partnership with our security supervisors along with the hospital employees, visitors, and patients.
An ideal candidate will have past leadership experience and prior experience within law enforcement or military
Schedule: mixture of Day and PM shifts to provide adequate coverage in the department
Location: Main Campus La Crosse, WI - from time to time may be asked to provide coverage, assist with training in other locations.
Job Description:
The Sergeant provides safety and security for patients, employees, and visitors; and protects Gundersen Health System assets. Works with the next level supervisor to initiate and communicate a variety of personnel activities.
Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency
DESIRED
Associate degree in Police Science or a related field
Work Experience:
REQUIRED
1 year hospital security experience; or 3 years in field of security. Incident Command Training (NIMS) obtained within 6 months of hire.
DESIRED
1 year previous experience in Law Enforcement and/or in the Military Sectors. Prior Leadership Experience. First Aid; handcuff, and OC (Pepper Spray) training.
License and Certifications:
REQUIRED Valid Driver's License (DL)
Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Consults with and keeps officers and Supervisor or Manager informed of activities, needs, and problems on assigned shift. Assumes responsibility in absence of Supervisor.
2. Directs, schedules, and monitors security activities in assigned areas to ensure secure and safe conditions for employees, patients and visitors, and to protect hospital/clinic buildings, assets and premises; inspects work performance/assignments, and recommends improvements in work methods.
3. Assists with selection, orientation/training of Security personnel. Evaluates work performance and makes personnel recommendations to the Supervisor or Manager. Prepares, reviews, modifies as needed Security schedules; authorizes time off as approved. Assists in implementing in-service education programs for staff.
4. Conducts investigations; maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to Security. Reviews incident reports submitted by staff for completeness and accuracy.
5. Collaborates with local, state and national agencies relative to Gundersen Health System Security investigations; directs and/or escorts agency personnel to hospital/clinic buildings, and premises as required.
6. Maintains established organizational and Security Department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
7. Monitors closed circuit television, alarms and Access Control, and contacts patrolling officer for necessary follow-up; monitors all exit doors, lights and fans, and reports malfunctions to Facility Operations Department.
8. Cares for and maintains supplies and Security equipment; requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
9. Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned by the Security Supervisor or Manager or Director of Facility Operations.
